View Full Version : Rev Limiter/Overrevving

What is the rev limiter on our cars? 6750? On my way to school today I was next to an integra at a light with a turn, and it was a little wet. We both kinda accelerated briskly, but my wheels spun and I went up to about 6900 according to the tach when I looked, but there is a chance it might have gone higher, I guess. I hear the tach is off though. I couldn't see the tach at first because my wheel was turned to the left to make the turn, so it covered the tach. It would be impossible to go over 6750, right? I'm just hoping I didn't mess up my car. What happens when you hit the rev limiter? Thanks.

rev limiter is around 7500. It's a fuel cut, so you will keep bouncing from 7000-7500. Or at least that's how it was on my ES. I don't rev that high at all since I put in the new engine.

Are you sure that's the case on the msp? I thought turboge said something about 6750 or so.

Your stock tacho can't help you in determining the 'actual' rev limit. You can, however, in practice determine what it reads in your car when you hit the rev limit :D

The Engine will cut fuel exactly at 6750. Of course sometimes it will be slightly lower or slightly higher due to the nature of rotation.. however your tach will always display a number completely different because of the instability and error.

In any case, the cut is WWAAYYY past where the power stops....

Sorry to bring that up..
But, an error made me go to 7500rpm without fuel Cut..
I got a MSP 2003.5..
The 7500rpm was on road..
A small test not to let a charge on the engine is to rev up will park. I know this is bad, but only for a brief period. Rose to 7000rpm, no cut..
Is my car ok?

Ive seen the other side of 7K a few times. Havent been past 7500 yet. Theres no power up there anyhow, I try not to but 1st and 2nd wrap up pretty kwik and its gotten away from me a few times. LOL!
Dont panic over 7K in a 4 cyl. Ive taken my small block Chevrolet to just shy of 8000 NUMEROUS times.

It's only in your mind, would you say that an engine reving to 4535k is better if it's still making the same power?

On my 03 black MSP it cuts at about 7100 rpm. I shift right at 7000 rpm when I'm racing. My autometer shift light has a 6.5 pill so by the time I shift when the light comes on it's about 7000. I tried to see where it actually cuts and it is right at 7100. It just bounces off 7100 and 7000. I don't recommend doing it, I just did it to see where it actually cut.
