View Full Version : How bad is regular gasoline for our cars?
instylz

I never use regular and the retard at the gas station today decided that when I said I wanted Premium I mysteriously wanted Regular instead....I always use 94 Sunoco and this time went to an Amoco station since I was getting pretty low...Needless to say I HATE FOREIGNERS! will this create any problems for me? I am running stock...Thanks guys

It is ok as long as you drive slowly and stay out of boost. But if you get into boost you have serious risk of detenation.

Would I be a retard if I asked if there was any way to drain the gastank? I'd rather drain it then get the gas I want...freaking full tank too... I'd hate to drive it like this all week. :(

put a hose down the gas tank and suck on the other end till it starts comming up, then pour into a container. It comes as a surprise so be sure not to drink too much of it.

Very easy. Stick a rubber tube down into the tank and get a couple of big big gas cans ready. Suck on the tube like your trying to drink ... like a straw, then right as you feel the gas in your mouth, pull it out, spit, and stick the tube in the first can. Keep the tube low so the flow does not stop. DO NOT DRINK ANY OF THE GAS.
I'm not responsible if you fuck yourself up or the car....:D
Seriously thats the way to do it.

Didn't it burn like hell?? I would think it would.

10-23-2003, 10:27 PM
Dreeza I hope you are not serious. You have an DX or LX which doesn't need premium fuel. It's only the MSP and maybe the MP3 (if I'm not mistaken) that take the recommended 93 or 94 octane. If you are not joking call poison control just to make sure you are okay.
alexlitov

You'll be ok. I drank gas before...wasn't a pleasant experience...
jersey_emt
10-23-2003, 10:28 PM
Ummm...with gasoline you definitely do NOT want to induce vomiting....
I'd only be really concerned if you start to get short of breath or have a seizure (which gasoline poisoning can do)
SpicyMchaggis
10-23-2003, 10:29 PM
no? this happened a couple times to me..worked for me..listen to jersey..the emt in his name suggest he knows what he's doing..i guess poison control lied to me and wanted me to die for being stupid
alexlitov
10-23-2003, 10:30 PM
I think you'll still be ok with the regular gas. Most new cars are aware when you put a different octane fuel, you'll be fine, you'll go a little slow and don't run 25PSI!!
alexlitov
10-23-2003, 10:31 PM
What octane gas did you drink anyway???
jersey_emt
10-23-2003, 10:33 PM
I have a 'pocket poison guide' because it's impossible to memorize all of the protocols for poisoning, and poisonings are not common calls, so it's not even worth it to try to memorize them all. I'd still check with poison control, because protocols are always being changed.
II-Savy
10-23-2003, 10:33 PM
The rule of thumb is if it burns going down then it will burn coming up. So you want to dilute(sp) it with milk....whole milk would be best, not that shit fat free crap...
jersey_emt
10-23-2003, 10:37 PM
Inducing vomiting is actually hardly used anymore. For minor poisonings, activated charcoal works for most things, it binds with the poison, and it's passed in your stools.
Now, instead of inducing vomiting, it's all gastric lavage (stomach pump)!

Wow dude - I hope you're okay. That sucks - I've never got gas in my mouth, or swallowed it, but I would imagine it could upset your digestive system for a couple of days. Probably wouldn't cause too much damage, since you're not out here in Cali so your gas doesn't have any MTBE in it - I definitely wouldn't drink that.
Good advice for people reading this though, go get yourself a siphon valve if you ever need to do anything like this. I've seen them in auto parts stores, at auto swap meets, and at the flea market a couple times. They usually charge about $10 for them and it's just a metal fitting with a spring and marble in it that makes a one way valve. It will usually come with about four to six feet of hose attached to it. You move it up and down in the tank a few times and the gas will start to flow. I've seen these used before, they're very easy to use and work pretty darn good.
Here's a link, if anyone is curious. I don't know anything about the company, I just found it on a google search and it's similar to the ones I've seen for sale.

Back in the day, when we had an engine rebuild on our other car, we let it idle for almost an entire day to 'break it in'....
I doubt you will do any damage. You can also turn on your AC, it will eat up your gas much faster...

or another option would be to first pull the fuse for the fuel pump, pull a line loose and put the fuse back in and let the fuel pump do its thing, just watch the gauge and make sure you dont pump it bone dry.

Damn don't any of you own a syphon hose??? It is just a long plastic hose with a squeezer on the end. Drop it in the tank, squeeze it a few times and the gas will start flowing. I'll be damed if I'm gonna suck gas.

Never figured that out. But the gas is cheaper than surrounding states and you don't have to get out of your car. Nothing wrong with that. As long as they put the right gas in I have no problems with it all all.

Nah Raaz, Oregon joins NJ in believing its citizens are too ignorant to pump their own gas. You thought I killed the gas guy's wife and started his house on fire when I started to fill my car up in The Dalles.

Yea, nothin like Jersey. The best part about living in Jersey is taking a trip out of state. The first time you need to fill up the tank you're like, "oh s**t, how do I work this gas pump thing?" It's pretty funny actually.
I actually sat in my car for 5 minutes in PA waiting for the gas attendant before I realized I had to get out and pump my own gas.
On the topic of swallowing some gasoline, don't sweat it. Way back in the day there was a gas shortage that had people syphoning gas from other people's cars all over the country. That's why people have locks for their gas caps now and why you gotta pull a lever to open the door. My parents tell me some wacky stories of stealing gas in their day and getting mouthfuls of it all the time.

As for the original post, the knock sensor will probably retard your timing, but don't drive agressively, and after burning some gas out of the tank, mix in 94 octane. The recommended octane is 91, 94+87 will probably mix up to be OK
SpicyRay
10-26-2003, 12:26 AM
yeah, but its not for sure that 87+94 would mix evenly. in any event, 87 is bad. and hey, when its 15 degrees out and you're getting gas in the early morning, you aren't complaining that you can't fill up your own gas tank.

No, not necessarily, shake the gas tank up a bit or something. :) But seriously, it's better than running the whole tank of 87... as for octane booster, sure, but don't they really only up the rating a few tenths on the RON scale?
