I"ll explode if I see someone esle say that Mazda 3 = M3. M3 - a sports car built by BMW. You can't say Mazda 3 = M3.

yeah i agree. when somebody asks if 'anybody trading in their p5 for an m3' i'll be like whoa! what an upgraade! oh wait a minute, i'm in the mazda3 section. confusing and misleading

how about it not be called any number at all?? i hate this new mazda thing where all the cars are numbers. keep the damn protege...good car, good name. they are making a huge mistake...more people would buy in my opinion if it were called a protege

They want to change their image. And like I mentioned in my other post it's "Mazda3", just like it's "Mazda6". The name isn't just 3 or 6. They want you to think of the car with the Mazda name attached to it, it's all about marketing the Mazda name, not some other name like Protege. Mazda doesn't have much recognition in NA and they're doing a great Marketing job with the Mazda6 (tons of magazine ads, tv commercials, and the rev-it-up), the RX-8(Fear Factor, tons of magazine ads and tv commercials), and I believe they'll do the same for the Mazda3 (I hear that they'll have a rev-it-up event next year using the Mazda3).
They want to change their image and put the Mazda name out there, therefore the emphasis on keeping "Mazda" in the car's name.
And it's working too. Go Mazda!! (thumb)

I just think that it is really disrespectful to your own car by calling it the wrong name... it makes you sound like an idiot to others too (and perhaps even a wannabe)... like fucktards calling their camaro a CAMERO... and tools calling their WRX "rex" :wtf: and now there are the ones calling their RSX's "rex" too... it's not like "rex" used for the RX-7 for years already isn't confusing enough!
