Ok, that is odd and random.
Can you be a little more specific?

Yes, you said FUCK YEAH. What is so good about it? Where do you feel the difference? Describe what the filter did more.

Typhoon won't be released. K&N said not enough interest in it.

I have to agree with "xxshyster"...the K&N is much better than the stock drop-in. It's nothing phenomenal mind you, but definitely an improvement in acceleration, smoothness and noise. Well worth $29.99 shipped!

Are you talking the drop-in the box solution or the 3" cone?
How did it affect sound. I rode in t3ase's car with just the 3" cone and it sounded GREAT. In fact the engine seemed quieter and the turbo louder, but not loud in a bad or ricey way.
Unfortunately, his car didn't like the hot air being blown at idle and it appeared to want to stall out.
Does the drop-in solution really change the sound in the same way? I thought it had more to do with the flow characteristics of a box vs. a cone, not the actual filter element.

Is it the same drop-in used in a P5?

I have one of these in the MSP.......makes a little difference but not much....I think wow is a placebo effect....did help the hesitation a bit, now with the flash I do not notice it as the engine runs louder now...
A CAI and hard pipes are worth saving for...but for 30 bucks the K&N drop in makes some difference and it is a better filter than the OEM one.
Personally I am looking for a deal on a hard pipe kit to replace all of the plastic ones and CAI combination. That would give me the sounds and power for my daily driver without upping the boost etc...I like my warranty...
But doesnt the K&N Drop in let in more dirt then the oem filters?

Yes. 33-3124 or something like that.

so you mean more power on the drop in on K&N filter, or the pipe style one?

cone filter will cause a power LOSS without a piping extension due to the fan placement.

I believe that the power gains are all in your head. I have a injen cai and it causes me to think im going faster but in reality I think its not worth wild unless you get an exhaust system.

less not more.......the holes in the K&N are smaller...go here http://knfilters.com/filtercharger.htm
I noticed a definite difference in off-idle performance with the drop in K&N panel filter. The car needs less throttle and less clutch feathering when starting out from standing stop. No doubt about it.

umm don't hardpipes void the warranty? They're a LOT more noticeable than a tiny little MBC!!

I guess that depends...I will have my dealer install them....they are cool with our other mods on the MP3....we take our cars there...( supply our own Mobil 1 of course ) for everything....may cost a bit more but it is amazing what happens when you have a relationship with the service guys...

I am thinking of getting the drop in flat K&N as well, $30 rather than over $200 USD for a CAI.
As for the hardpipes, i read another post where Joe P mentioned that the pipes expanding wouldn't be the source of loss power.
I say why bother changing them? If you have the cash, and your butt dyno tells you it helps, more power to you.
I would love one of the protosport downpipes, but i want to pass drive clean, and don't want to have to swap it back and forth. Also, I would want a high flow CAT, which is big $$.
Right now, i am on a VERY tight budget, and i'm looking to get the K&N, the Joe P MBC, i bought the HSM exhaust pipe off Arunto (for sound only i know), and a boost guage. That's it for me but that's me.

i have a drop in, car runs smoother, and accelerates faster and my turbo spools is louder.

I just can't see everybody spending so much money on a cai......why doesn't anybody make their own?
This may sound cheezy but if you do it right it looks okay.
PVC my friends......... It's fairly cheap, doesnt absorb heat half as much as stock pipes. It's smooth, easy to cut to fit, lots of different elbows and sizes to choose from.....
yeah, yeah i know....backyard mechanic right?
