I cant stand how quiet my turbo is. I just wanna be able to rev it up and hear that whistle but i barely can. Ive read and seen tons of posts about how quiet our turbos are but are some louder than others? or are they all this quiet? The CAI does make it sound sweet but im not interested in putting one on right now.

tiny turbo + recirc valve instead of BOV + low boost level = meterosexual sounds from engine bay!

I kinda figured that..But isnt a jetta turbo about the same size? My buddy has a jetta and his sounds so nice when he hits the gas. Id put a bov on the car but ive heard of instances where it made the car stall. is this true? will a bov make it louder?

BOV makes it louder when you let off. For more noise, try adding the injen intake. Very noisy, very usefull and look great!

I have the Injen CAI, and I'm running at 8.5 psi. The turbo is the perfect volume IMO...you can hear the whistle clearly, but it's not overpowering. The BPV is much louder than stock.
CAI + MBC = louder turbo.

VW's run REALLY high boost, that's why the turbo whine is more audible. also slight differences in the system help.

VWs don't run very high boost...it's more than the MSP, but it's not all that high. The performance chips for VW/Audi turbo engines up the boost....so the factory boost level can't be that high.

like gti stock boost is like 7-8 psi but they can run alot of boost without any internal modifications from what ive seen

I've seen upwards of 21psi at my local track. The kid had no interior in a golf. He was running Nitto 555R's on the front and skinny-minnies on the rear. For engine mods he had a MBC and a CAI. His exhaust was stock as far as I could tell. It had no different muffler and sound (from exhaust) was non-exsistant. The engine on the other hand made a hell of a noise. He ran nose and nose with a Z06 Corvette. His 1/8th mile time was 7.90's. the best part was watching him launch. He barley rolled out and when he got up to about 15mph he eased into it. He told me later that was the only way he could hold onto the steering wheel!

ya, those cars can be made fast with not alot of modifications, ive seen some guys running 25psi on a gti with no internals, rediculous stuff

I find my turbo to be pretty loud, when I punch 2nd gear with all the windows up I can hear the whine pretty good. I raced my buddy once and I screamed by his car in 2nd gear and he said the turbo was really loud!

do you have a cai or sri, it would make a difference in sound.
plus the psi turned up..

I'm sorry I misspoke. It wasn't a Z06. It was a 94ish looking model with two small turbo's. However the time was accurate 7.90's and his "crew" was complaining that he was taking it easy. This kid made it into "fast 8" competition. It's the fastest 8 cars that show up at the track have a heads up race. Loses leaves and the winner laps again. Last one standing wins. He was second place. He lost to a trailer queen making obscene power. It was like watching top fuel and super-street going head to head, not a fair race.

Just realized this is what you said. The turbo won't push boost without a load on the engine. Just revving the car won't give you the turbo sound.

no...i didnt mean like sitting idle and reving it. I meant like flying down the interstate, getting on that onramp accelerating i want to hear it whistle!!! or even when i weave in thru and out of traffic since im an impatient prick. it doesnt whistle hardly at all when doing this

The turbo whistle is not prevalent for me with the windows up. But as soon as the driver side window goes down I can hear it loud and clear (mine is stock).

I've heard that if you advance the timing a little, it will prevent the stalling. Doesn't hurt the engine either. I'm like 90% sure I heard of someone doing this. I'm planning on doing this eventually, so I hope it works(thinking Greddy type s BOV) Also, you would not believe how the loud the turbo sounds from the outside. My pops was driving around in the speed( I was Biking), and we both stoped at the same light right by my house. So I holered at him to giver real hard. Let's just say it whistles like hell, the BOB/BPV sound wasn't very noticab;e, but still kinda there. Like I said, advance timing, open up to atmosphere, and maybe get a good one(greddy, HKS etc)
