You may want to contact AWR racing. They fabricate all kinds of stuff. I believe they may already make a Protege Cage.

i dont know then. since you are in Illinois im sure you get get a shop that builds dirt track cars to build you one. there is a shop here that builds dirt track cars and spints and when they are slow they build cages for imports. they are pretty cheap as well. there is also a shop here in lexington that builds cages for cars

I contacted Shawn(Chojin) @ Mazdaformance.com about a year ago inquiring about the roll cage installed in their sedan, and I believe he quoted me around $600 for the cage. He has road racing experience, so I'm sure he'll be able to tell you if its fully functional.

I'm planning to build a replica Speedvision car, so I need a rollcage. I might ask some exhaust shops around here with rollcage exp, but I wouldnt want to spend more than $400.

yeah the roll cage in the mp3-t is tight (2thumbs) just won't be able to use the back seat exactly....but it'll stiffen up the chassis big time.

Exhaust shops for a roll cage? I have been racing for several years, and I wouldn't ever consider having an exhaust shop make my cages. Go to an experienced cage builder.

SpeedVision cars are more than 4 point. What are you looking for? A harness bar with two down point in the rear, or are you thiking about front pillar bars and a roll bar? If so, that won't work, it will not offer any structural support whatsoever without rear pillars, and that makes it 6 point.

For a decent cage, the main hoop and rear pillars will cost nearly $400 in DOM tubing with the mounting plates. I would not use ERW as the SCCA has now mandated that DOM is required for all cars built (into race cars)after Jan 03. You may not be considering racing, but you never know what the future will bring.

The IT cage that is going into my MP3 (when I find one) is going to be just over $1400. This is a 6 point cage with two footwell braces to create a crumple zone. This is basically a main hoop, two 30 degree rear support tube with a crossbrace at the rear strut tower mounting, a Petty bar, and through the dash pillar bars with gusseting throughout. Several more braces as well.

My brother built a harness bar at an exhaust shop, and it bent on a relativvely low speed impact allowing him to slice forward towards the steering wheel.
