Anyone use one? Do they work? I'd only buy one if it worked ALL the time!

I've heard about the 8500. How much does it cost? And more importantly does it work? The only reason I don't have a radar detector now is b/c I'm afraid I'll speed more (thinking it will save me) and then I'll get busted going 100+!

dude, a radar detector wont save you. seriously. ive done ride alongs with the local PD. nothing can stop them from reading you.
instant on- you're screwed.
laser- screwed.
only thing that'd save u if the cop leaves his radar on. most dont anymore.
PASSPORT 8500
I have attached reviews elsewhere here, that you can check out, as well.

Beltronics is the best one out there in my opinion. I've picked up cops a mile away. The only time it goes off is when there's a cop there. I've had it for 2 months and not one false alarm yet.

they dont use laser or instant on around here and my radar detector has saved my ass several times. i wont hit the road with out it. if i am going on a road trip i have a handheld cb that ive had modded for better range. listening to the truckers is the best way to know where the cops are on the open road

absolutely. CBs are the best tool IMO.
I speed smart. only straight away highways downhill (mild downhill so u an see a few miles ahead) and slow down near underpasses. never speed after sunset.

let someone go 90mph past me, then 3mins later, i fly and hit 130mph.

i generally like to find someone who is going faster than me and then let them get to where i can barely see them and cruise at their speed

You haven't been to VA then!
My suggestion is always have two radar detectors...
the idiot who is going way faster than you in front and the radar in your car. That way if they are turning it on and off...they get him first....rebounds off of him so your radar detector picks it up and you slow down!

The one thing I don't like about the V1 is that you can't dim it...so it stands out at night...sure they have the hideaway kit but that's more $$.

Explain????
That you aren't supposed to have them....no biggie, just don't get caught!
Plus the great thing about the Valentine 1 is most VA police do not think it is a radar detector......

I was in a similar situtation and could not decide which one to get so i just didnt get one at all. My debate was teh escort 8500 and the V1. I heard that nothing can defend laser to well, at least in CA.

laser definitely =screwed, but here in CO there is 2 laser units in the state, and we don't see them very often- always speed with a rabbit in front of you- my old bel has saved me from I have no idea how many tickets- it falses a bit, but out here it's mostly the K or superwideband KA that they use, and the only time mine falses is on X or Y band

If you want a radar detector, buy a Valentine One. My dad has one in his 911 and never gets tickets. I have seen firsthand that radar detector pick up cops from a safe slowing distance thousands of times. And if they don't, hell, Valentine will pay your ticket (circumstancial).

Yeah, but insurance will still sky rocket.
