I don't know about a Protege specific light, but I do know about a clear side-marker for a Mazda RX-7.

You can click on the part: FD clear fender markers with bulbs (sold as pair) to see a picture.

Here is the link! (http://www.rx7.com/cgi-local/3catalog.cgi?cat=5&part=1)

Sadly, knowing the RX-7 crowd, they probably can't keep them in stock!!

Just an idea....Why cant we just use a universal side marker? Because I really want a pari as well. But Def. not willing to spend a $buck59 for them. That retarded, any ideas or solutions to this problem?

Just so that all of you know, the Protege5 now comes stock with clear sidemarkers as part of the Mid-cycle refresh option. I priced them with my dealership discount and they came out to $61.90. So as a regular custom they're about $125. You can also get the 2002 Protege and Protege5 with a Sportronic Shifter. Just thought you guys who were looking for clear sidemarkers would like to know.

I just saw a woman driving a silver P5 with clear side markers up over the wheel well but the same old yellow ones near the bumper. If that's the 2002.5 clear markers (with amber bulbs), I'm rather disappointed that they kept the yellow ones. I can't see her being the type to add them herself. There was a baby seat in the car and everything else looked stock.

Here is the link to the site that I bought the clear side markers from.

THEY ARE NOT AN EXACT FIT. So if you buy them and get pissed that they don't work, it's not my fault. You can make them work one of two ways. They come with a silver plastic back on them. They have a half sphere back. It is just too big to fit into the existing hole in the fender. If you use some type of serrated blade, you can cut a groove into the top and the bottom edge of the "sphere on the back of the sidemarker. Those grooves will be the exact thickness of the fender metal. It should pop right in or you can put it in twisted 1/4 turn, then just twist it into place. If you mess this up its ok because there is another way. Also, if you don't want to splice into the existing wires, this way is for you. Take off the existing sidemarkers. You will have to use something to break off the amber cover. It's glued on and doesn't snap off. I just used a serrated knife and hit it a few times and broke it apart. Then pull the peices of the best you can. After you get it down to the edges of the grey housing, you will need some type of file the get the rest off. I used a grinder. Any type of metal file will work. File down the remaining amber peices until the edge of the grey housing is smooth and all grey is showing. Then the clear lens will just snap off of the other sidemarker. Use any type of glue to glue it on. I recomend some type of epoxy because super glue leaves a white haze on plastics. I learned this by experience. You can't notice it unless you are looking for it though. Hopefully you aren't totally confused. Once you get all the parts and start doing it, this will all make sense. Have fun and take your time to make it look good.

There's one last thing I forgot that you have to do. There is a black rubber seal type thing around the sidemarker. You have to trim that to fit around the new lens since the clear lens is a little bigger in the middle than the stock one. Once you start playing with it you will se what I mean. I actuall tore off the one that came on the stock one and trimmed the one that comes with the clear one to make it fit the back of the stock side marker. I guess I'll take pics of that too since that sounds confusing.

Since i have a blue mp3 do you think the smoked ones might look better, i already ordered the clears but since my car is blue i hope they dont stand out to much. i guess i will just do a dry fit test before glueing and make sure i like it. i was just thinkin the smoked ones might look pretty good.

PaulMP3

they came today, i just put them on, the install went very well. it was annoying getting all the orance plastic off the only problem was i used super glue to glue the new ones on and my fingers are all hard now. but besides that it went good. i must say the car looks much better with the clear blinkers. they look like they came from the factory like that. Thanks for all the help BIGBEN. by the way are you doing the turbo install yourself??? Is it done yet??
Your assistants was very helpful and apreciated.

Thanks for the compliments. Everyone should know how easy it is to do. You are right though, it is a little agrivating tryong to get all the orange plastic off. I used a grinder though and it went a lot faster. As for the turbo, I'm doing it all myself. All I have left to get is the turbo which is in the mail, and the manifold which spoolin is still working on. He's having it chrome plated. It should look really good. I'll post pics of the process and when I'm done. It should be on within 4 to 5 more weeks!

I talked to spoolin yesterday and he said the manifold might be finished next week. I'll be the 2nd boosted yellow MP3! All ready to wipe up the competition at HIN in August. I'm thinking about getting the nitrous intercooler spray kit also. $300 is a lot of money though.

Better....They now come STANDARD on any Protege made for the year 2002.5! From the factory! Go to your dealership. Be ready to shell out about $60.
