At how much RPM do you shift?

Do you make POWERSHIFT too?

16.8, it's high for an MP3.

Last saturday, an MP3 di 16.4, and it was a girl at his first try.:D

And that day, we didn't have traction. 0-60 ft were between 2.3 and 2.4 fot all Mazda Protégé on the track.

I'm going to definitely have to try this one day I think...I've never tried to see what my best 1/4 mile is...but then again part of the reason is that the nearest 1/4 mile track is an hour away. :(

Oh and just out of curiosity or whatever....I don't think the sub weighs that much in the MP3.....unless there are different ones....I'd say my sub only weighs around 20 - 30 pounds.

No but I'm sure it doesn't matter. I talked to this girl that day and she's pretty cool. His boyfriend had a black P5 and he did 16.3.

I'm not certain but I think njaremka is referring to how you keep saying "his"....as in a "girl at his first try" and "His boyfriend"....no biggie just kinda amusing.

Good run i like seeing the MP3's coming up. Yeah baby yeah...lol:eek: :D . Anyways i have one question, my friend has a stage 2 Revhard turbo and is just running at 4Psi of boost and ran 14.4's with 17's atenza's or whatever rims they are, their black rim's though. And he ran 13.9' at 7psi of boost. Well seing as your running at 8psi and 14.6's is it because you are running a stage 1 turbo or whatever, or your not even trying to push it hard at all.???????????????????????????

Stou
07-19-2002, 08:58 AM
This 14.6 was run with a smooth start. If I tried to start to hard, I got to much wheel spining. Right now my tires are in good shape and I want to keep them in shape for Autocross. When they will be more worn, I'll try 1/4 mile with harder start! :)

I'm sure I can get under 14 time.

tritonheat1
07-19-2002, 06:13 PM
thanx for the Info and i like your car i'm glad i'm seeing Mp3's coming up, and looking forward turbo maybe Hehe..... one more question though, have you ever tried to set the boost at 4-5psi and see what you can run. Also is your turbo a stage 1 or 2 setup and how much was it and did it take long to install it.?????????????

Stou
07-19-2002, 08:43 PM
I never tried at 4-5 psi. My turbo has an internal wastegate and the spring is for a minimum 8 psi. Right now I don't have a boost controller. To be able to try at 4-5 psi, I need to change the spring for a lower psi base and add a boost controller. I'm realy satisfied with the 8 psi power. I don't think I'll go under or over 8 psi for now.

My turbo installation was a complete custom job. So it was made and installed as the work progressed. It took them 6 weeks to developped the kit. I removed all the kit (almost) to paint it and make some minor modification after I got my car back. It took around 4 hour to install it.

What do you mean by stage 1 or 2?

tritonheat1
07-20-2002, 11:21 PM
The turbo kit you got, is it stage 1 or stage 2 turbo, don't know if that setup was from another stock car or not but my bro's Si has a revhard stage2 Turbo setup. If that came from another car setup then never mind:rolleyes: . Anyways i like the turbo setup and the pics. Outta SpoolinMP3, chdesign, wshade6, and you who is the fastest right now running turbo.

Stou: Blue mica Turbo
spoolinMP3: vivid yellow Turbo
Chdesign: silver Protege ES Turbo
Wshade6: Red PR5 Turbo
???????????????????????????????????hehe:D :D

Stou
07-21-2002, 08:45 AM
That kit didn't come from another car. It's all custom made. Piping intercooler, exhaust is made specially for my car. The only thing that was not custom made is the turbo itself. It's a brand new Mitsubishi TD05H 16g. I think this kind of turbo is used on Eclipse and Talon.

About who is the fastest MP3 righ now, I think Spoolin is the only one who goes at 12 psi.... so I think that make him the fastest. But if I remember well, it was only for a test and now he's back to 7 or 8 psi. Chdesign doesn't run turbo anymore and Wshade is runing at 8 psi I think. So we are probably at the same level of performance.

If you didn't already guess, that surely isn't my P5. With enough money it could happen, but I doubt I will ever make near that much. If I wasn't so worried about the P5's tranny destroying itself, I would take it to the track. Oh well, figured I'd chime in. :)

The new car is a 1987 Buick Regal T-type. :) So much is upgraded from stock, I wouldn't know where to start. I made that run at about ~23 PSI, Headers uncapped, and 110 Octane gas... I've yet to mount some slicks on it. I think high 9's are possible if I boost ~30PSI, and run slicks. That was my first time at the track with the T-Type, and all I can say is wow. I can't run again there until I get a roll cage... anything under 12 secs requires it. :)

This was my second ever trip to the drag strip. I took out the front seat, back seat, spare tire, and sub. My only performance mods are an Injen CAI and the Bosal Federal Exhaust. My best run was a 16.003 but I didn't nail the launch. Click on the link below to view two of my time slips.

I just purchased the FM turbo kit, I should be getting it sometime next week, along with my current mods I'm hoping to break 14's, thats after I break in the turbo in of coarse...

Current mods;
MHP carbon fiber CAI
AEM water by pass valve
Magnaflow cat-back exhaust
Mazdaspeed Intake camshaft
J-Spec Exhaust camshaft
Unorthodox pulley (comming off when turbo goes on, any buyers?
Kart-boy short shifter
Kart-boy shifter bushings
Ground-Control coil overs
17" wheels wrapped in Bridgstone Potenza S-03 pole position's
Competition brake pads

I'm also ordering a ACT clutch and Lightend flywheel to arrive at the same time as the turbo. This should be very interesting, I guess next week you can add me to the list of Forced inducted Protege's, which by the way, how many of you are here in California, any in the bay area? Look out for me, My new Cali plates read "TurboP5" I'll have pictures of the turbo and all as soon as it's all done, for now I'll leave a N/A pic!:)

My wife and I are considering replacing our boring 95 Altima with a P5 - I want a family car that has some redeeming qualities - sporty, quick, etc. That said, I also don't want to get an even SLOWER car. Judging from most of the replies, that's what we'd have. Sure, I'm expecting replies such as "But the p5 HANDLES well, etc"...I already have a miata for that :) We need a car that can haul us, our two kids, and all their crap up to freeway-and-beyond speeds without too much stress. Am I correct to assume FI is simply the only way to get close to that goal? Maybe this belongs in a new topic, but have any of the FI guys regretted the endeavor? We can't afford a 'project car' - I know Flyin Miata makes good stuff; but has anyone installed the kit for long enough to feel good about it's reliability, etc?
We test drove the Mazda6s last weekend, in ATX form. We were NOT happy at all w/ the lethargic tranny - thus, we are debating whether or not it'd be better for us to get a MUCH cheaper p5 ($12k or so cheaper) then spring for the FM Turbo set up...

Anywho..thanks for indulging me :)

Mods: Cone Filter, RX7 MAF, GReddy Catback, 8lb Flywheel - 102rwhp

First off, welcome to the site! :)
Not to make you think I am a stalker or anything, but I think I remember you from "another" site, where I was Fastdrvr23 as well. (Although, I owned a 1994 Probe GT then...) It's hard to forget a Turbo'ed 93 Probe GT, as there weren't all that many.

Anyways, I think the P5 would make an excellent family hauler, and still be entertaining enough that you won't get bored with it. I've had mine for ~1 year and 19,000 miles and still love to drive it. (Although, I don't have two sports cars like yourself for the serious stuff.. ;) ) As for the Mazda 6, I've only driven a 4cyl. 5 speed and liked it ok overall. It handled well, and had "enough" power, but just didn't have the overall tossible feel of the P5. Too bad there is no Mazdaspeed P5 yet... :)

At any rate, welcome once again!

Cool.

Oh yeah, My name's Will... :)

You almost convinced me into buying a miata before I bought the P5. Reading about how much fun you had driving the miata, I went a test drove a few. It finally came down to the fact that I'm 6'4" and could hardly drive with the top up. lol.

After seeing how much depreciation I've had with the new P5, I think a used one would be a great alternative. There's a guy named Terry (aka Spoolin) here on the site that makes a kit for the P5's as well. They seem to be the most powerful at present, and seem to be designed really well. One of Flyin Miata's techs (Keith@FM) checks in here pretty often too with updates, so it sounds like you're in the right place. I think WShade was the first with the BEGI / FM kit, so he's probably had it the longest out of everyone. He might be a good source on reliability. Anyways, good luck on your decision!

Hey Rexstang, what's your mods on the WRX? Are you still running the stock turbo and fuel system? Drag radials? My next car (this fall) will be a WRX if I can't get a good deal on a TT Supra. (Damn Fast and the Furious sent the market value up about $10,000)
Anyway, the wrx is a very nice car. If you don't have an exhaust manifold for it yet definitely consider the Gruppe-s header with uppipe. $500 shipped! http://www.gruppe-s.com/Subaru/subeng.htm

Here is a link with an old mods list. I've since replaced the AEM Cold air intake with the Blitz SUS intake, and replaced the MRT Top mount intercooler with the Blitz Front mount. I've added a Blitz blow off valve and removed the MRT Boost cut defender. Also I've added Volk TE-37's 17X7.5, an OEM bodykit, hyper ground wires, and an STI grill.

Soon I'll be going big with the SR-40 or T3/T4 turbo. I've done all the mods myself so if you ever need help or advice with your WRX let me know. Oh btw, it was on street tires.

The piping for the front mount and the cold air didn't fit well together.

I was running about 10 psi and with the exception of an O2 sensor modifier, I did not compensate for lack of fuel delivery to the engine. An auxiliary fuel pump would be required to run 8 psi on this kit safely, so I was way out of range on that run, lol. Paid the price let me tell ya. Two pistons shattered, two bent rods, melted crank, warped head, four holes in the block, one in the oil pan. Woo hoo!!

 There's nothing saying you have to drive a Protege, or even a Mazda to post here.

no one out there that is saying they did low to mid 16' on a stock mp3 is tellin the truth not even pro drivers could do this give me a break. i did a 16.79 stock and am an avid driver who has taken a few classes at firebird national and probably still couldnt break 16.7 just cause the mp3 is slow doesnt mean its bad i own and love mine even better now that its turboed but please dont tell the truth its just not possible in a stock mp3 look it up.

It is possible to get such times, if some P5s are doing 16.5s then the mp3 should be able to. Heck I was getting 16.2s out of my Saturn Wagon! While most mags were getting 17s.

But will hopefully found out about the P5 next month when I finally have time to go to the track.
