I have heard alot of different things said about other brands fitting our proteges. Does anyone know for sure what other makes fit our cars(Kia, Ford,?)?Working on peicing things together for a auto to manual conversions. Found alot of Kia Saphia and Rio trans cheap.

None are a direct fit.

Only 3rd gen Pro tranny will fit 3rd Gen Pro tranny. Also 626 and Probe tranny will fit.

the 626 tranny purportedly has stronger synchros than ours, despite the design being identical. The most noticable difference is in that the 626 did not have the notchy 1-2 shift we do.

so it sounds like finding a 626 trans would be a good idea which I have done. What do you mean by the notchy 1-2 shift, also then would the manual axles for the protege fit right in or is there some moding having to be done?

if the tranny you get from a 626 is from the 2.0 liter it will bolt right up. not the ones with the V6.

many people complain that the shift from first to second is rough, hard, notchy, etc. the 626 did not have this problem.

letting the shifter slide forward, as oppsed to jamming it into 2nd is tha proper 5sp method

these arent 55 chevy trucks, the gears just slide on up, its downshifting that is a real bitch :/

1 out of 8 times mine will not go into 3rd (it will click in but not engage and if i leave it there it will make a big clunk and pop out)...i've begun to just skipping 3rd and going into 4th instead (unless acceleration is needed)

Forward? :wtf:? Don't you mean "backward" - the shifter moves backward, the shifter rod underneath moves foward...

But anyway, I'd love a 6 speed in this thing. 3200 RPM commutes get on my nerves some days......

yeah if i have a spare $15k i'd get the quaife 6spd sequential :D

i'm sure some smart company like tri-point etc can rework the stock gear box to have 6 spd
