i just wanted your input on my "trauma" im going through. well everyone knows i have a 2003 DX model and they come with them hella sexy wheel covers. well i found a throttle body for my car at corksport.com (hopefully its for my car b.c i found it under my cat.) but i also want rims to get rid of the nasty wheel covers..what should i do? perfomance vs. looks ahhh!

get the wheels, because without a new MAF and standalone management system, the throttle body will be useless.

im telling you the TB would be an utter waste of money. pm spicymachiggas he was going to start a little business making better throttle bodies, but when him and his friend tested it out, they didnt get any gains, he needed a new MAF and engine management system. youre looking at over a thousand easily not including the TB however much it is. not to mention no one makes a different or modified MAF sensor that IVE ever heard of.

If I'm not mistaken perfworks has created a larger MAF for his kit he was developing. Don't hold me to it, but I remember reading something like that...

in that case, i stand corrected on the maf. but youll still need it AND an engine management (like AEM)

ic, what exactly does a MAF do? and when you say engine management, do you mean like a SRI or CAI?? sorry for my ignorance!

MAF monitors the air flow into the engine and sends the info to the ecu to adjust air fuel ration, SRI is a short ram intake (which is just an intake) along with a CAI (cold air intake)
engine managment would be something like a haltech standalone computer (replaces your car's stock ecu (computer)) and allows you to adjust pretty much everything (i believe that with a haltech you no longer need a MAF because you can program it

by engine management i mean a full comp setup thing like (i hate to say it) fast and the furious that manages your fuel maps. i think. ive never seen one in person that i could play with, just at some random shows. as for the MAF basically it tells the computer how much air is coming in so it can adjust the amount of fuel to keep the a/f ratio good. some techno freak can correct me if ive slipped up here.

Hey, Yea thanks matt for clearing that up. They are larger TB's available like the one from corksport.com which is 60MM as opposed to 55MM. The Throttle body mod is worthless unless your running a matching MAF meter. Right now the only MAF's available are in the vicinity of 3" or bigger. We were going to bore/hone out a throttle body to about that size and couple it with one of the modern performance meters. Here's the catch. The whole project relies on a piggyback ecu. You MUST have one to make this work at all. Perfwerk's Piggyback was the best option. Do the math, were well over 1300$ here. After talking to Modern Perfomance, Tri-Point Engineering, WagnerMotorsports and with my crack team of scientists, we determined the gains would be in the 20-25WHP/30-35FT-LBS. That is a properly tuned FS-DE with the mods. BUT, the problem we ran into is this. Is that the mods add those numbers, or is it just what proper tuning to our filthy rich FS-DE can yield? good question..but thats that. Now, we can still make this whole little mod a package..say for like 1500$ so we can scrape up a measely profit..but 1500$, is that really worth it? save up..get a turbo..give me a shout if you find a money tree..good luck -kyle
