I've got a 02 Protege 2.0L LX but it's automatic transmission.. I really wanted a standard but i got a really good deal on this car. Is there a way to switch it to a manual and how much would it cost?

you would need the transmission, the shift linkage, the pedal assemblies just to name a few parts. its going to present quite a bit of work for you to pull it off, i assure you. if you were to pay someone to do it, it would cost you A LOT of money.

Plus ECU, new harness, brake pedal, clutch reservoir, axles, tranny mounts, linkage. I'am in the same predicament. Found everything needed for $850 shipped, but not Mazdaspeed tranny. Probably around $1000 from a competent mechanic to do the swap.

Good luck.

Pirana, what is making you look at the MSP trans versus say, an ES trans? you could just buy the thicker axles and an aftermarket LSD. i think there is even a listing of the parts and part numbers you need for the MSP LSD to retrofit a stock trans here on the forum.

the price of a LSD is around $600 + the cost of the new axles. If I can get the whole shibang used, would be a lot cheaper. I think around $950-$1000 from a wrecking yard.

just find the ravine where Dr. Sound's MSP is resting and strip it :)

there's no "ATX to MTX conversion shop".. you either buy from a dealership, which is going to cost about $6000 for everything (the MTX transaxle alone is about $2000) or find a junker/used car and buy the car and/or get the person to sell you just the MTX parts from that car.

alot of work? defentaly, but lil freek that has done it said alot of moderate-easy work, not really that hard, just time consuming. Two people with a cherry picker could probaly pull it off in 3-4days. Or a Friday-sunday weekend if they have a garage and work a little into the night.

If you can find a place that'll acutaly do it, I've tried getting quotes from about 3 local shops and all I get so far is (too many man hours, sorry)
