What does 'flashed' mean?

im new to the whole mazda scene. a freind of mine has one and im doing some research for him. i also njoy reading and learning about new cars. i was reading Mazdaspeed Aftermarket (http://www.msprotege.com/vbb230/showthread.php?s=&threadid=31763) thread and i was wondering what flashe meant? the writer uses that term in the fuel system section. thanks a lot!

Basically, it means your car has the ECU update that gets rid of the hesitation problem by advancing the timing.
