I notice that my MSP pulls like a mutha when she's cold but as soon as it's up to operating temp the power dies off noticably. :wtf:

our intercooler is about the same size as a 1.8t intercooler which isn't too small for the application.

find a wrx intercooler, they can be had for about 100bux and get some custom hardpipes.

The intercooler on the MSP is definatly smaller the the 1.8T. My friend has one and the 1.8T is definatly wider.

That is called a pig rich car :).. Rich mixtures love cool temps. Also, keep in mind- turbo cars, really any car- just more so with turbo cars- run better when the temps come down.

Heat soak is if you have been piss pounding the car non stop and the IC doesn't get to cool down due to either constant ass whoopings, poor effeciency or a combo of the two :).. If you are just driving around normally and it is hot out and you jump on it and it feels more sluggish than on a cold day- that is NOT heatsoak- the IC never even got a chance to get hot prior to hammering on it... Heatsoak will occour after extended boost runs (how long of a run depends on the IC).. The MSP IC, while not the greatest, is far from teh worst design out there and does not heatsoak as badly as people think.. Yes, the car would most definately benefit from a better IC once you start to mod, but don't sell the stock one short either..

Hey joe, I can tell by the way my car feels it's just WAY too rich. Is it safe for me to run your fuel pressure reducer if my car has the flash? All the cars on the lot were flashed when I bought mine so I had no choice.

yes, a very good question indeed! :)

From what I understand, the flash doesn't change the fuel curve's. So I assume the thing is still PIG RICH. Will using your fpr with the bumped timing of the new flash cause any problems joe????????

I dunno :0.. From the feedback I have gotten, several people still run the FCD after the flash. It makes sense that it would work since MAzda really didn't "fix" the furel problem, they just hid it with more timing.. However, my car is long gone, so I have no first hand experience with it..

Yeah, I got rid of it almost 4 months ago while it was still worth *something* on a trade in- only $13,500 with only 9000 miles and 3 months old!!! Actually, I bought a 2003 Mustang GT convertible becuase I wanted to do a twin turbo Mustang this winter out of it, just not sure now if I really want to spend the $$$ right now because I am getting married next July and might wait until "after" that to do it. Unless all my friends are right and this will be my only chance because the "ring changes everything" (sad1) (nervous)

Yeah, if I didnt have the wife, my car would be modded to hell! Well, I'd at least have my FMIC. :)

So joe says the FPR kit should be ok to use. I wonder are there any post flash MSP's running with the FPR on? Anyone know?

Just to clarify- Joe doesn't "say" it is ok to use because joe never tested it :).. Joe's customers that have given feedback have given positive feedback.. Just wanted to clarify so some knucklehead somewhere doesn't throw it on, detonate the hell out of his car for 2000 miles, blow it up and say "Joe said it is ok" :)..

Lol- so I've been told. I keep hearing "I would never do that- your hobbies are your hobbies and I will not try to change that" from her- then all my friends say "yup, mine said the same thing- BEFORE the ring" :(.

like I said- it is a combo of things- all cars perform better when cooler. Turbo cars especially- rich running cars benefit the most. Again, from what I have heard- the flash does nothing to fix the real problem of being too rich just hides it well... It is still a poorly tuned car :(..

Hello guys, I just found out about this forum today, and i found it very helpful and informative. I was reading on about the heat soaked question on the stock IC and I thought I could shed some light on the subject. On the following link you can purchase an after market IC for the MSP for around $975. Hope this helps… and no need to hot rod with a WRX IC.... check it out!

Welcome leo(drinks). Spool is one of the sponsors here, and is no secret to most of us. You could always go with this one from iON as well.

I am thinking about putting it back in my car over the last couple of days. It has been stumbling lately (post flash) and I think the fpr will help. I am running stock boost so I don't see why it would be at all bad.

505 - did you find the ION FMIC made a difference ? Was it easy to install? I really want to get one. :)
