I was at the local car meet tonight & I saw a lot of NICE cars...

supercharged Z06
turbo E36 M3
Audi RS6
2 turbo MR2s
one of the 10 or so 600+hp MkIII Supras in Orlando
several 337 GTIs
WRX with a decent amount of work done
Forge Motorsports EVO project car

The important one is the last one. Most of you have probably never heard of Forge, but they're big in the VW/Audi community. They are known mostly for their DVs (diverter valves), but they sell a whole bunch of stuff. Anyway, I was talking to George who works for them here in Orlando & he was looking at my car & asked me some ?s. He told me that he would be interested in developing a DV/BPV that would be a direct replacement for the stock one without having to upgrade to hard pipes etc. He also mentioned an intake & some engine management & I assured him that there would be a LOT of interest in that even though our cars are limited production. Anyway, I am gonna stop by their place sometime soon & test out the prototype DV. You can check out their site at:

www.forgemotorsport.com

Let me know what you all think & if there is anything else you want me to suggest to him.

a piggy back that will allow injector upgrades, pretty much an s-afc so we don't have to spend a grand to be able to up the injector size.

Apparently Orlando is the home of their new Sales & Distribution Facility. George & another guy who work there are in charge of Sales & Development for the US. Looks like my prayers for a tuner on the East Coast have finally been answered. :p

hmm...i hope they make the bpv direct replacement louder...i don't think i'll be able to get hardpipes for a while...or @ least until christmas :D i'd be interested in an intake if they can offer it for below 225 or @ least competitively priced w/ different SRIs

Sounds awesome.
Engine dress up stuff would be nice for our cars!
Definately the electronics. The stuff they have for Scoobys is SWEEEEEEET!
Hell, all of it looks NICE!
Get them to make everything possible!!!!!!!!!

Guys, my friend has a VW GTI 1.8 t with a Forge DV on it and I have put it on my car when I was bored. The are pretty much same diameter tubes and he paid like $130 for his. Any GTI 1.8t diverter valve should work on out cars. I know www.turboXS.com has some as well.

it works great too!!
when i had the stock downpipe on i could bearly hear it because of the turkey. but now with the catless downpipe i can hear it all the time. it feels much safer now that the air for sure is getting out there with every swoooohhh...
its a dual pistion style design so its for sure not going to leak and its vacume activated.

I think I'd rather have one that's desgined specifically for use with our car. It should also be the same price or cheaper.

Well turbonetics makes a DV valve as well. Most cars that use DV's are all the same size. Our MSP's will fit into that category.

i'd rather have the ability to change things myself than have to ship off my ecu every time i mod, but i can see how some people would prefer this route.

I meant to update this yesterday, but I didn't get around to it. I visited the Forge Motorsport HQ & they changed out my stock DV to one basically like this:

http://www.forgemotorsport.com/images/products/fmdvs013b.jpg

It's a direct replacement for the stock unit, which appeared to have a small leak in my case. The sound is basically the same, but it does feel like it holds boost better & spools up a little quicker.

I got a chance to meet the 2 guys in charge & talk to them about the MSP. :D George & Tom are really cool & they spent a decent amount of time checking out my engine & all the quirks. They seem to be interested in developing new parts & were surprised by how easy the car should be to work on (due to the arrangement of things in the engine bay). For right now, I am testing out their DV, but they have some 19mm http://www.protegemp3.com/vbb230/ubb/icons/icon2.gif 25mm adapters coming in that will allow me to switch to a dual-piston, atmospheric BOV that looks similar to this:

http://www.forgemotorsport.com/images/products/fmdv004.jpg

I described to them the problems that people have had with stalling when using BOVs. They can explain it better than I can, but basically the dual-piston design allows the BOV to vent to the atmosphere & then remain partially closed during decel & idle. This setup is not a direct replacement & will require some different parts to be installed. It will, however, allow us to use a BOV without having to get hard pipes with a flange welded on. I'll try to get some pics of the DV I have on right now & again when I change to the BOV.

I also showed this forum & this particular thread to George & Tom while I was there, so I know they looked at the requests for new parts that have been made. If anyone has any ?s or additional requests, let me know & I will bring them up next time I stop by Forge.

Sweet. It seems everyone and their dog wants a BOV for their MSP, so there's definately some demand for that dual drive one or whatever they call it. Thanks for helpin' the MSP community grow.

Sweet job Ryan! I guess we'll be seeing this at the next meet! I wanna go to the next ECCO meet so I can see this Forge Evo and that 600hp Supra!

I actually called these guys yesterday. (about a totally different subjet) :D and he did mention you coming in. These guys are top notch, extremly knowledgable, and have an extensive background with EVO's Scoobies, Vdubs, and a few other cars.

I was thoroughly (sp) impressed with my conversation with these guys, and I look forward to doing work with them in the future. :D

Tom & George are great. They're both super nice & you can tell they know everything about the stuff they produce. I'm actually pretty excited to see what they come up with after they have a real chance to tinker with the car. :D

Man it is about time companies are starting to make BOV's for our cars.

lol, that's exactly what we need, since there aren't tons of universal ones that already exist that will work just fine. screw parts that will make more power, i want more noise that makes it sound like i have power!

What we don't need are trolls like you who can't appreciate a company that is going out of their way to develop new parts for our car. I can tell you that I am definately NOT getting it for the sound & I can't even tell you what it will sound like till I try it. They are making it so that people can use the best system possible without having to get hard pipes & a custom welded flange. If you'd like them to develop performance parts too, why not try posting a suggestion instead?

it would be great to be able to soon buy a "forge motorsports" header for the msp *hint* *hint* lol

i did post a suggestion, see the second post in this thread:rolleyes: . so why exactly are you getting it if not for the sound? is the stock one leaking on you? they are making it because of the million threads on "can i vent my bov" "how can i make a loud bov sound", i.e. it will sell, get their name out there in this circle, it's already a part that pretty much exists, they just adapt a little, low r&d time, etc.... it makes sense from a business perspective to make this, and they are a business. i'm glad they're making something, but imho we need different parts developed that we will see a benefit from.
you don't have to get hard pipes and custom welded flange to run many of the numerous bov's already available.

Maybe a 2.75" or 3" turbo back exhaust..... and tunable ecu... then I can talk to the twins

You mean Exhaust Manifold

TiGrayMsp716
10-16-2003, 03:16 PM
exhaust manifold, turbo manifold, header(s) it's all the same. They all refer to a collecter that takes exhaust from the engine. some just stop at a turbo, some at a cat or exhaust or atmosphere.

MSP Chris

I believe "turbo manifold" is the key word.

no, it's exhaust manifold. but if you stay stock turbo, it's not worth replacing. the gains will be not worth the money at all.

MSP Chris

exhaust manifold usually refers to stock setups. Headers are only on upgraded N/A cars.
