you can order the front and rear motormounts from protege5online as Matthew stated. They are made by AWR.

The passenger side mount from the Mazdaspeed Protege is stiffer than an MP3, P5 or Protege sedan mount. I see you own an MSP, I was just tossing that in for everyone else's reference. You can order it from the Mazda dealer.

don't you need to jack up the motor to change any mount to relieve the pressure that is on that mount, not just the rear?

i got the awr mounts, they make the car idle rough, and between 1000-1500 rpm the car vibrates. But they totally get rid of engine lash and almost all wheel hop.

The front one is simple to put in the rear is a PITA. I got the rear in, but it was a fight.

In the forsale section there is a group buy for the AWR mounts for 117 shipped, normally they are 135. They really give the car a great fell while driving, If you are willing to deal with the extra vibration during idle and low rpms.

once i installed ion's race springs, my wheel hop is almost nonexistant

I got the AWR Motor Mounts from Mitch in a previous group buy and have them both installed. Wheel hop is virtually gone and throttle response is improved. The back is a PITA and I almost quit on it, you'll want help with it. But we got it done with the right tools. Search for a thread called motor mount help and that has some good info with those of us who had some success and twizyours posted a thread with a how-to.

Vibration is really extreme when you first put it in, they do however work themselves in and it mellows out a little bit, but it will always vibrate more then stock. You get used to it. It's esepcially better after driving for 5-10 minutes and the car warms up.

Bottom line, in my personal experience totally worth it.

how much of a difference does just the front mount make?, what about that mount on the side? is that a ms mount? (passenger side)

I think the Passenger Side mount on the top is a Mazdaspeed mount (in my Mazdaspeed).

Just the front mount made a big difference, but the front and rear was even better. What some people have been doing who have done both is leaving the rear in and swapping the front in and out since it's a quick job with the right tools.

I drove with just the front for a while, it is nice(still vibrates) the back one helps the most but also vibrates the most. I put it in my self, but it took a pathetic 5-6hrs to do (including 3 trips to sears hardware). Its a sore subject

I have just the front AWR in, but will probably put the rear one in a very distant future.
The wheel hop was really PISSING ME OFF, I had to get it.

Just the front one helps a lot and there is minimal wheel hop sometimes. I'm sure I'd love to put the back one in but I don't have any full days free anytime soon.

I love it when my idle drops below 1000rpm and I my entire body shakes :D I am ONE with the MACHINE!!

haha wait till you put the rear in. my friend said it felt like she was getting a message when it was idle..

See, why pay for those car seat massagers? Get some motor mounts for much less, get a massage while driving AND get rid of the wheel hop

I can't wait to drive girls wild while idling in my car (thumb)

can u get the mazdaspeed mount from the dealer? how much is it?

Mazdaspeed mount is $140 and change. . .

GAUGING INTEREST:

I've asked once before, but I forget where. I can design and build some aluminum inserts for the #3 mount (on the timing side of the engine). I am suggesting that I build something to fill in the two large voids. This would prevent any "major" movement of the engine, but still "hopefully" not transmit too much vibration since it will still have the "regular" rubber aroud the insert. I'm thinking this is the best of both worlds. My only concern is that I would recommend tapping a hole in the center of the mount to put a bolt in to make sure the insert doesn't come out. Other than that, I can design them to be as tight as they need to be (could even make them a loose fit to prevent vibration, but to stop movement after one eigth of an inch or something like that).

Anyway, I need to bribe a programmer and a CNC operator to get this done (that's why I haven't done it yet), so I'm curious how many people would be interested and what it would be worth to them. The CNC time isn't cheap, but technically, I think I can get around that, by doing it afterhours and with the right lush, I mean operator. Let me know.

how much would it cost, why would u use aluminium? wouldn't that be rougher? all the mounts i have seen are urethane...

i think he is talking about the inner cylinder that goes within the rubber bushing, like the peice in the AWR mounts, or the piece inside the shifter bushing..........

am i thinking correctly?

Don't forget about rr-racing's front mount inserts. easy install and only 40 bucks shipped. Check em out.

i didn't know rr made them for the protege, i used to have a front in my pgt and it was great, no vibration or anything. maybe i'll pick one up

A friend of mine filled in the gaps of his motor mounts with windshield sealant with pretty good results. Not as good as urethane but, definitely helped.

Does anyone have any photos of the stock motor mounts removed?

I have AWR mounts front/rear but I the guys at mazdaspeed said there are two different versions, one's an upgrade and one's for the touring cars...I apparently got the ones for the touring cars and found that the resonance at idle was deafening and the vibration throughout the rev band was untolerable. I didn't have to patience to drive with them to get them warm enough to soften but I couldn't drive to work on a daily basis with them in.

What ever my buddy mechanic did when we reinstalled the stock mounts seemed to have solved most of the wheel hop problems (??). (BTW, he agreed, the rear mount is not something he would have wanted to try without a hoist and the right tools). Maybe a loose install from the factory? Maybe he misinstalled something in a better way??

Anyway I only get wheel hop now on real grippy concrete using Falken Azenis (or Hoosier RS03'sTires) and with a serious load exiting a corner (ie. autocross). The only other time is very slick surfaces like in the wet when the car fights for traction.

Has anyone else heard of multiple compounds? I may have to try the middle compound uretheyne if there is such a thing.

AWR are awesome. Get them if you can live with the vibrations side effects.
heres my review on them:

Car is stiffer
Gearing is easier
Transmission feedback is louder (you can hear the gears while driving)
Wheel hop is gone
Engine drag response is better
1k rpms with air conditioner on and some load is untolerable, everything shakes, sunroof, hatch, dash, money, things inside the glovebox, etc.
above 1krpms is normal.

the rattling in the cabin is getting to me, but my tranny feels much better.

what about just putting in the mSP mounts? is that a good compromise?

jrodhotrod

To the best of my knowledge the mazdaspeed mounts for the front and rear are the same as the other proteges. I know that I had mad wheel hop before putting in my AWR motor mounts.

And like igdrasil said the only real problems are around 1,000RPM, the mounts soften up a little over time and once the engine is warmed up. It's not even that bad anymore, just bad vibration around 1,000 rpms when shifting into 1st gear. Totally worth it.

I got wicked wheel hop 3x last night at the track. 03Speed was there & he was having similar problems. I'm definately thinking about getting these now or at least just the front for starters.

if you only install the front one, and like to drag race or dump the clutch or just experience any kind of wheel hop, your rear mount will say goodbye anytime because the stiffness of the front will deliver the stress to the rear mount. Thats what happened to me.

sorry but i really don't understand what does wheel hop mean??
can anyone please kindly explain this to me, thank you

Try dumping your clutch at 4000 RPMs. You'll find out. Wheel hop happens in front wheel drive cars when there isn't enough traction in the front and is compounded by soft motor mounts that cause the engine to rock back and forth, causing your front wheels to hop up and down killing your start.

The first page of this thread lists a couple of ways to find the "How TO's" for installing the motor mounts. Aparently the back one is a bitch.
