I've always heard that it's good to let your car warm up in the cold or really anytime before you drive it to get the oil flowing. I put some synthetic motor and manuel transaxle oil in my car since its supposed to stay fluid a lot colder than normal oil. Since I don't always have time to warm the car up, would it really be that bad to just take off and drive with it?

yes, let it warm up. I'm not talking 20 mins or anything, just a few mins, and off you go.

If you must absolutely drive right away, don't rev high at all.

I don't have synthetic oil but whenever I have the patient to wait a minute or two the car would run a lot smoother when accelerating, they always say it'll be bad for the car in the long run, maybe that's true, but in the manual they also say start driving as soon as the motor begin to run smoothly... well what do they mean? run smoothly is very subjective... to me at least.

Anyway for me I wait 2 to 3 minutes max, I don't care if it's still below C I'll just shift below 3,000rpm and not floor it and I won't feel bad.

I have a question to you all turbo guys, I heard several time from people driving A4 1.8Ts saying turbo engine doesn't need to warm up to keep the turbo from something???? I don't really knwo is that true not to warm up a turbo equipped car in the cold?

my understanding that if you want to lengthen the life of your turbo, you should let it warp up even longer then a non turbo car.

But I tell ya, the turbo runs much faster the first few minutes it's on..MUCH faster

Really? Is it because of the colder exhuast air you're compressing? That's kinda cool.
