View Full Version : Strange Noise from my MSP

Today I'm driving along the FL. Turnpike in my MSP (following a BMW) and when I hit about 110mph I hear a very strange howling type of noise (but not too loud).....it's not the sharp whistling like what the turbo makes when it is spooling up. I slow down to about 50mph, drop to third and haul ass through 4th and 5th back up to around 110mph again and the same noise comes back. First time I'm hearing it (but not first time I'm going that fast). Any ideas? I'll try to take it in to the dealer soon but considering it doesn't just happen at high revs (cause I experimented with that too) I'm hoping it's not a case of "we don't hear it so we don't know what it is". Any ideas? Thanks.

Did you check the rear view for police?

Sounds like wind-noise from the weather seals on the doors to me.

Some have had a problem with the windshield seal.
They described the problem in the exact way you did including the fact it was only present at high speed.

damn, you read my mind I just posted a thread of concerns and one of them was this whistle, but I got it in 2nd gear at 3500 rpm and not going 110mph.

I'm pretty sure all doors were locked and all windows were up properly. I'll do it again soon and listen keenly to see if it's the windshield seal. I started to wonder if the turbo was being starved of oil but hopefully that's not the case - in any case I don't know what that would sound like. Thanks for the insight though.
Jeremy, I actually live in Plantation but I'm in my last semester of FIU so I have to commute there. You?

common problem over 100mph. Like stated above it is the windsheild gasket, some dealers have fixed it, other have just put a small bead of silicone in them selves. Mine does it, but i dont drive that fast often, so i will live with it.

try searchin, it has been a while since last discussed.
