Anyone know whether K&N makes a drop in filter for the MSP. I checked their website and found they make one for the MP3, but I'm not sure if it will also work with MSP.

On a side note, if a K&N exists and I get one, will the stock BPV sound like:

a. a louder version of the turkey
b. a whooooooosh
c. some other sound (please explain)

Sound clips would help!

yeah, same filter.

a. no
b. no
c. no

it will sound the same. the airbox is still there. that's what muffles the sound. don't waste your time with any drop in or replacement cone. drop ins give little to no gains and the cone will have it inhaling hot air. just get an intake system.

K&N makes both a cone and flat filter for our cars. The flat "drop in" filter is somewhat better than stock but will not increase noise. The cone filter adds a lot more noise, but without any other placement mods, the fans blow hot air directly on the cone affecting performance and almost stalling out the car at idle.

And you'll get a louder version of the turkey if you do the cone.

Thanks for the info guys! I'm glad I'm not gonna drop $50 on an ineffective mod.

Yes, it's the same part number as all regular 2.0 proteges. K&N Part Number 33-2134.

I wouldn't call the Drop In filter an ineffective mod. It does flow more air than a stock paper filter, and this is never a bad thing. If you don't want to install or pay for a full intake system, it's a simple and cheap way to get a little more air flow from the stock setup.

If you do a froogle.com search you can find it for about $30.

I installed mine, and while it didn't tranform my car into 200hp monster, it did seem to deliver a slightly smoother power delivery (pre-flash).

The fact is that cotton-element filters will flow more air, so you decide what that's worth to you. Oh yeah, and like everyone else mentioned, the sounds of the engine are unchanged with this.

I have a K&N cone.
Turbo Spool is much louder, the BPV is more audible, and the car idles a little rough sometimes, but it doesnt get close to stalling.
Everyone said its a performance hit.. but i havent noticed a major difference...

Yeah. No kidding. Where I was interning this summer (Casper, Wyoming), one of the lab techs has a daughter who drives an MX-6. I sold all my stuff to her (STB, Chilton, K&N). Couldn't help it. I have a hard time saying no to a good lookin lady (the daughter) and all I can say is... DAMN!!!!!!!!!

I know... I'm a sucker.
