SO i dropped my lip and grill off to be painted and I left my stock hood there with him so he could match the color.

He called up his paint company or whatever with the code and got the paints required. He then followed their mixing directions and said it looked NOTHING like the car. So he called back to see if there were any variations and they said there was one lighter and one more red. So he got those, mixed em up, and neither one was even close. So he finally called up and asked if they had a 3 stage process listed and the place said "no, because its not a 3 stage paint"

yadda yadda yadda

He mixed up his own coctail, used a 3 stage process and it matches damn near perfect on the grill (havent put the lip on yet to see)

just thought that was interesting that the color code from the car didnt seemt o tell him the appropriate color....

the same thing happend when i had my civic. The number code on the door made a paint that wasnt close the the cars color. They had to use a scanner to match the paint. I had to go to the paint shop where they took a small hand held scanner and scaned a small section on my hood. Its a cool little toy they got. Then they just pluged the scanner into a computer and it told them how to make the color.

i went and aksed him today.......and he said he mixed it by eye trying like 15 different mixtures and didnt make note of the recipe since as he said, if he has to match ti again, he will match it specific to the car or part of the car that is being painted rather than relying on a paint recipe from a different car/part of the car.

bare in mind I dont know if this is a perfect match yet since I havent put my lip on or had my grill looked at by people other than myself but from what I have seen its dead on. Ill have both on for a meet this weekend and we shall see if everyone thinks its a good match or a shade off.

Yours looks good in the pics no?

the bumper and grille of PHRiSCo's car look lighter than the rest of the car, the paint is different or so it seems to me.

My body shop matched my paint exactly the first time. Even the owner was a little skeptical of her top painter, and he matched it perfectly on the first try. I don't know who told them this isn't a 3 stage paint, but thats how mine was done. You would never know which panels were replaced and painted.

My new front end (OEM) came out perfect. I can't even tell it went to the body shop.
