Throwout bearing? Trans? Put the clutch in and see if it goes away. I'm having mine checked next time in. Check the TSB's also, there was a Protege TSB on something like this. Sometimes they make that noise and it's not a problem, but I want to have it documented that I heard it.

The sound comes from the exhaust turbo housing and go and come back in any moment not from the transmision or clutch

sound at idle with the clutch in or out and with the car running

mine has like 2700 miles on it, and does a little more than wine at idle. It creaks, groans, squeals, and throws a general racket. And it definetly comes from the turbo housing. Took it to the dealer, LEFT IT OVERNIGHT, they said it was "normal turbo noise." :bs: :bs: :bs: :bs: :bs: :bs:

In the 7/22/03 T3ease write this
Whine while idle?
Alright, as many of you know, I have the worst luck with this great little orange econobox. New thing starting happening now. When the car is idle and in neutral, there's a whine under the hood. If the accelerator is pushed down at all, the whine stops and it sounds fine. I've opened the hood and it sounds like it's coming from the turbo housing itself. Any ideas?

Is the same sound of my car

Sorry, havent been living on the boards much lately due to a lot of stuff going on here. The whine is still there and they cannot find anything wrong. They did change out my A/C compressor but that didn't solve anything. I dunno.

I notice a little whine as well. Its probably feedback from the amp, and it comes through the speakers.
Turn the stereo off. Do you still hear it?

Thats the only thing i can think of.
That and the turbo is always spinning when the car is on.. just not very fast.
Turn the car off and pop the hood, and you can hear it slowly winding down... Turbo's do weird things, and we love them for it. :)
