I am looking for inexpensive modifications that i could make on my car(a mazdaspeed). It would also be nice if it didn't void the warrenty. Does anybody have any suggestions?

thanks

Find the $1000 mod challenge thread. It explains so me good cheap mods.

IMO, the best mods are the DIYs.

Hmmm...

First mod to make with this car (or any other) is to improve the DRIVER. Take a driving school course - it's the best money you can spend, and it's easily transferable car-to-car. Most of the problems with cars occur between the seat, pedals, and steering wheel.... that said...

FREE:
- Remove weatherstripping to allow engine compartment to vent heat.
- AIM THE DAMN FOGLIGHTS! They aren't so bad once aimed, but aiming is a PITA. Aiming the headlights, though, is a breeze - no tools!
- Be sure tire pressure is at spec (32-34PSI) and even all around. Amazing what a difference 2-3 PSI can make. AutoXers usually play with pressure outside that range, but that's a specialized application.

REALLY cheap (under or about $100):
- HSM-type axle back straight pipe. Removes muffler, gives a sweet low sound, nothing the neighbors would complain about, should cost about $50-100 to have a muffler shop fab one up for you, or buy AGR's old one if he hasn't sold it yet. Sounds better (lower and quieter) than an SRT4, but similar in sound. NOT raspy like Honda farty exhausts.
- Shift knob, pinstripes, decals, other personalization
- all-weather bulbs in the fogs
- turbo timer: Allows the engine to idle/cool down after a run automatically
- boost gauge and pillar pod
- Joe P boost controller: Buy this AFTER putting a boost gauge on, and only if you want to take the risks associated with playing with boost.
- air/fuel mixture gauge: Gives a good light show
- Intercooler sprayer: Get thee to a salvage yard, get a windshield washer fluid reservior and pump, and rig it up! COoler, denser intake charge means more power (ugh ugh ugh)

Over $100:
Ask someone else, I'm a tightwad!
Personal list:
- c/f hood
- FMIC: Front Mount Intercooler
- BBS wheels (for me - others want different things)

Have fun with the car!

OH - almost forgot - DaveB gauge rings! They're the BEST. Every time I look at the dash I'm glad I spent the $38 for these things. 5 minuites to install and the gauges look more Lexus than Mazda. Dave and Kelly are the BEST to deal with, too.

(hi) Welcome to the board! I hope you stick around and enjoy your time here.

There have been some great suggestions for getting started, but once you start you won't be able to stop (laugh)

Read the sticky threads at the top of this section and you'll get some more ideas for mods, especially the Mazdaspeed aftermarket guide.

DaveB Gauge Rings info:

email dave: DKBODDE@AOL.COM and tell him you want to order a set.. he has brushed or polished/chrome .. but you'll get the details in email .. $30 plus $3.85 S&H = $33.85 total (shipped in US).

Also see this thread: http://www.protege5.com/vbb230/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22050&highlight=daveb+gauge+rings

Lastly when in doubt check out the search button if you think it's a question that might have been asked before and if you have no luck ask away and lots of friendly people will give you a hand.

Enjoy the Mazdaspeed! :D
