Hmmmm does anyone know if its possible to get one of those new sport automatics from the 2003 protege es and put it in a 2002 protege es. Cause right now i have an automatic and its no fun at all, i wanted a manual but its a long story.

Well... to be honest, I believe it is possible.

But with the money that you would spend on a diff. tranny, you might be better off just putting it towards a turbo.

You would be voiding your warranty either way and a turbo would be more fun than a sport tranny :)

btw... I have a sport tranny already and I am going turbo

It wouold probably easier to just put a manual transmission in there wouldnt it?
Also with the PTS Shiftronic thing how does that work. All it says is that its a plug and play device and allows you to shift up or down. Does that meant u have to get a new shifter or what?

i kinda doubt a manual swap would be easier, really....

Isn't it the same transmission with just a different controller. I remember seeing transmission designation comparisons between the auto and the sport-auto a while ago and they were the same. Just a different controller. Being an owner of a manual, I'm unaware as to whether the controller is built within the ECU or if it's separate. You may want to look into that.

As for providing more fun? It may enhance the driving experience some, but it'll never give you the benefit of a manual.

I talked to mazda a while back and it is actually different model numbers. As for how different they are internally... I doubt much. Possibly a little beefier since they say you can down shift with it in the manual... but you never know.

Also, as for enhancing your driving experience, I agree that it won't do much.

Is the PTS thing that you mention an upgrade by someone that converts it into a sport shift?

Also, I would trade in my car for a manual before I actually swapped out the auto tranny with a manual tranny. And if you considered doing that, I would just go turbo cause either one will void your warranty.

If you want to know how fun a regular auto is with a turbo, ask pirana. That's the setup he's got right now.

It would be cheapest and easiest to go buy a car with the tranny you want.

i know but like i said its a long sad story and i dont feel like telling it. Plus it will be cool to build up an auto tranny

I have the sport transmission, and I dont use it anymore. I heard there were problems with it from other users so I put a piece of plastic in there. Heh. Fuck it. I want my protege to last to 200k miles.
