could someone fill me in on what other internal parts would be needed to upgrade. i kno some pple say the stock internals can handle a certain amount of power but they will be replaced.

Call me if you ever get that much done to a Protege sedan, cause I am seriously doubting it. You're talking in excess of $30,000 for everything. Do yourself a favor and buy an RX-8 instead.

If people can spend $150,000 on an RSX, i dont' see why $30,000 on a protege is so bad.

I would rather have a protege like that, than an RX-8 any day.

Its achievable as long as he stays focus and doesn't get tired of it. Just don't get broke doing it. I've seen that happen many times. People get so into their cars and keep dishing money into it. Next week: "My cars for sale. I got into some financial trouble...".

Good Luck on the project. I would LOVE to see this completed.:)

For the internals you might want to start by labling them right, the compression goes on the piston not the rod. Id take the head off for a port and polish too, and maybe a valve job. Also might as well get some custom cams ground with stiffer valve springs and stronger lifters.

*IF* this protege comes to be it would be one of the sickest on the boards.

If I were building it though Id ditch all the pointless carbon fiber stuff. no point there, it seems like your building a performance car, then you throw a shit load of show mods onto it.

Don't forget a Level 10 Tranny with all that HP/torque you'll be throwing down.

MP3skaterNC
09-22-2003, 05:38 PM
ummm. guessing this would be on a 5spd, therefore level 10 = pointless. but shotpeened shift forks and gears might not be a bad idea.

ATLskate
09-22-2003, 05:46 PM
level 10 is for automatics eh? oh well, you learn something everyday.

Although I'd still take the RX-8, are you sure the DG Motorsports front lip will fit on the WW bumper? Also, I think the rear valence is for P5s...

If you've never owned a turbocharged car before wouldn't it be better to buy an off the shelf Mazdaspeed for around $18K for your first time out? It seems you'd be able to make better informed choices w/ a little more experience, right?

What's the point of starting w/ the ES, anyway?

the stock internals will handle - WITH FUEL MANAGEMENT - 12 psi according to the turbo wizards. you can get away with 8 psi running a rising rate gain fuel pressure regulator.

nocar
09-23-2003, 09:46 PM
according to the spool site the stage 3 would produce those numbers alone. the reason i would not buy a mazdaspeed is because there is no point if i would b getting

paint job
turbo
rims
interior
body kit
exhaust system
suspension

evrything would be replaced and i figure why not start with a 2k1 protege for a decent amount cheaper.

and yes i wasn't sure about the dg front lip and rear valance, (should of done my hw on that). any of that can be custom made anyway if i really decide i need it.

as for money i rather be driving this sick car then some evo, sti or even mercedes for the price i would probobly be paying. and as for the show look of the car i havnt been able to see all of this stuff combined on one car so its just a image in my head that im thinking would look pretty good.
