does anyone know if CATCO cats are good? And do you think a 3" exhaust will add more hp then a 2.5"

The exhaust question has been asked over and over. Unless you're pushing EXTREME horsepower (read: more than most Protege's will ever get to), you'll notice absolutely no difference. I'd stick to 2.5". Anything over that and you're wasting money/space, but that's just my opinion based on what's been said here.
As far as the cats, I've never heard of Catco. And more of my opinion here; I wouldn't put anything on my car that sounds like it came from a company named after a super walmart for auto parts. I dunno.

Google search for Radom tachnolgy high flow cat (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=random+technology+high+flow+cat.+2.5%22&spell=1)

catco is cheap, and they'll flow better than stock but they only have 1 line that they consider high flow, i forget which one it is though. i haven't heard anything bad about them, but i've seen no actual tests. and yea, 3" will just be louder

Does catco make a quality product though? Something just makes it sound like a cheap Pepboys knock off brand that I wouldn't expect much quality out of.

from what i've heard they're not bad, summit carries them, but i've never heard formal reviews or anything

i did a little bit of looking around on dsmtalk for people that have them, and the ones that do like them and some even say they don't notice a difference when going from a test pipe to the catco (i doubt this is true, but it's what people said). the 2600 series is the high flow series, and on summit's site it says they can be used for engines up to 5.2L (except in ca), so i would say that flows enough for a turbo 2.0L

i've heard of catco. they're supposed to be decent. have you considered random technology cats or car sound cats? i've also heard that custom conversion cats are really good....maybe that's why they're $150!!
also, 2.5" should be fine for our applications. if you go 3", you're not hurting anything except your wallet and you leave the door open in case you start making some impressive numbers. at stock settings, you might gain 1hp or so over 2.5" still, i say go 3" :D

were talking basically about a 12" gutted piece of piping. i dont think it really matters who makes it, in all seriousness. i mean other than the high-flow portion of the equation, as far as what its made of etc etc doesnt matter i dont think.

You just go ahead and put cheap parts on your car. Let me know how it turns out in a few years, mmmkay?

i really dont think it matters, seeing that all high flow cats seem to be around 100 bucks, what would you consider cheap? 99.99?
