I'm looking to do my own valve adjustment...anyone do a how-to yet?

The shop manual explains it pretty well. budget a LOT of time, since the valve ride directly on the cam, the cam followers are solid, (not hydraulic) and you will need shims if they are out of spec. You will have to remove the cam cover and know how to use a feeler gauge.
I have heard of some Miata guys doing a valve adjustment and getting better performance out of the car. They wil set the clearance to the minimum factory settings on all valves.
Why would you want to do a valve adjustment anyway?

thanks for the info...i didn't know they were solid lifters...i'm used to having to do them constantly on my honda...so do these motors not require valve adjustments?

Not like a Honda does. You should check the clearances every 60k miles or so, but you don't need to adjust unless they fall out of spec. Change your oil regularly, and you can forget about that untill well past 100k.
