OK, there's probably a hole crap load of shit about this, but I'm tired of searching through 8000 posts, to find out there was nothing to help, so I'll just post. I'm getting Autometer Boost PSI, Oil PSI and Exhaust temp gauges. I was wondering, is there any drilling or anything required, could somebody with these items installed tell me how hard it was? I would like to know the level of difficulty this install will be. I have a basic knowledge of engine's, and engine repair. I will be installing them in my autoclass. I just need to know about the drilling, cause I don't really trust my teacher to do something that extensive, but basic wiring and shit I can do, and so can he. I just want to make sure. Don't say "Why don't you read the instructions?" cause I haven't got them yet. I will in about a month or so when I finally order them. Thanks for your time and patience. PEACE

boost gauge is easy, egt will require the manifold to be tapped so the probe can be put in, oil pressure as long as it's electrical should be easy, if it's mechanical it shouldn't be in the cabin for safety reasons without something to isolate the hot oil.

The way I understand Mechanical oil pressure gauges to work it the oil pressure compresses the air in the tubing, and the gauge actually measures the pressure of the air pushing through the hose. So no oil goes into your car, unless you rupture the line, or have a loose fitting.

that would make sense, but i have heard otherwise (no proof, just heard) and i know they make things to isolate liquids like oil or fuel that you don't want in your cabin that you put inside of your engine bay and then a different fluid is sent into the cabin. either way, electrical is like $15 more and worth it

I don't know for sure that that's how it works, that's just my understanding of it. The air in the hose has to go somewhere, I suppose it's possible for it to feed back into the oil system or whatever...

Thanks for the helpful info, I'm pretty sure the autoshop can handle tapping into my exhaust. And i was planning on getting the electrical. It doesn't require tapping, right?

You screw the sender into the block. You will need a 1/8th" BSPT to 1/8" NPT adapter, and a 1/8th F*M*F NPT "T" if you don't want your stock oil pressure light to come on.

For the EGT u should put it in the cast callaway section right after the turbo for the best accurate reading. It requires removal so you can make sure all the shavings from drilling into the metal are wiped clean. If any metal is left it can be sucked in the turbo and engine causing damage.

Maybe its a straight forward question, but since I have my gauges on the way I'm not sure which material of fittings to buy for both the Boost and Oil pressure gauges. I found them at Macmaster Carr in Brass for a few bucks a piece. Any help? Thanks

I would go with brass. That's what I have on the way from them... :D

is there anyway you can post a pic of the setup for the oil pressure guage and how it looks with all those fitting from the sender unit?????

I have a defi d series electrical oil pressure gauge. It came with a replacement sender unit, which means you must tap into the ignition to send a oil pressure signal to the ECU. Without this, the car WILL NOT start.
If you are altering the stock sending unit, then im not sure.
