I was playing with my headunit today and i got a pretty nice bass response from the sub. dont really know what my settings were but i was wondering what some of you guys set yours too. personally i think it sounds good enough. i dont understand how in the hell people blow them...anyway, hopefully some of you guys will know the best settings to place it at

people blow them because they set the bass level to 8, nf level to 8, and volume to 30. its just too much for a little 8 inch.
just make your bass level 0, and nf level 3. that should be good enough.

sure I had mine at negative 8 bass and 0 non-fadding, I don't listen to the music on anything past volume 30 and mine blew.

When I had that sub in my car i had bass at 0 and nf at -4 I think. I am an audio person and that sub is so boomy I liked to have it lower. All my rock music sounded right with the sub turned down a little bit.

thats not true.... i went through 5 woofers in 7 months. at first we thought it was me but it wasnt. had the speaker settings to top 40 and didnt turn it up past 25 and blew 3. then the dealer set the setting and i didnt tuch it and boom no base
BASS SET TO 0!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
ALWAYS!
Any more and I will hunt you down!
(rofl)
The NF level is the sub control and increases the audio signals voltage to the amp, the bass adds distortion and only distortion to EVERY speaker.
Keep loudness off alswell.

Mine didn't blow, I guess it sort of unblew?.. It didn't work from day 1 and then a month later, it started working. Nothing changed... I came home, parked, etc... Next morning, started the car, and boom! there was this boomy, muddy bad bass sound happening.
I have the amp's gain turned down to about 1/3, the NF level at -09, the high pass freq's at 80 for front and rear and low pass at 80 for the sub. I don't know why 'NF' is sub.... maybe 'noisy f*cker' or something like that. ;)
I'm amazed at how good it sounds, though. It's infinitely complicated to use but, I'm happy with the sound quality...
To further the enjoyment, I added the Sirius tuner which I'm very happy with. It integrates very well with the Kenwood and is worth every penny.
N = Non
F = Fading
NF Level = Non Fading level.

I current run bass 0, NF 1 but am debating dropping NF back to 0 to be safe.

Keep loudness off aswell.
See I'm always worried about blowing my speakers themselves with the bass set to 0 because I do like to turn up the music to like 30-31 on the headunit. And why should we keep the loudness off, I assume there is a benefit to having it off because it sounds better in my opinion with it on.
Loudness on = distortion.
Anytiome the head unit artificialy boost the audio signal distortion will set in earlier. Loudness off is the real audio signal.
Bass set to 0 will be the best, if you want bass turn up the NF level, thats why its there.
If the amp is set right the NF level should go to max with no distortion.

I just was screwing around with my settings on lunch and realized my sub isn't working. I dont think it ever was. I figured it was because I was used to running 2 JL 12"s. I put all my settings back to stock but the option for the NF level and also the other sub settings (crossover etc) are no longer in the menu maybe they never were? Maybe it knows my VC is gone or the sub is not hooked up? The amp is on. Don't know what else but to take it apart and check the sub with a meter.

I listen to a lot of rockers {reggae} with mucho bass I thought I was the culprit!!! I was told it blew because I had my loudness button ON and volume passed the Loudness level..... I'm not too much into audio but I can agree with the statement.... after it was explained to me what the loud button is actually there for....MAZDA changed it anyway!!!!! I added what I needed..... my 8in could probably be blown right now...... but I can't HEAR it anyways!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!

HPF Front & Rear 120hz
LPF 80hz
Loudness ON
Bass Extention OFF
I've upgraded the sub amp to a Rockford Fostgate Punch 250.
The sub rocks now with these settings, not as boomy and tighter punchier then before. Loudness extends the bass a bit lower and usable with the new RF amp. Keeping HPF at 120 eliminates distortion on all the speakers. I will probably still upgrade the woofer eventually though but it's good enough for now.
While I'm at it, the stock speakers are horrible at flat settings. What works for me is the following:
Trebble 17.5khz +8 Narrow band
Mid 0.5khz +3 Wide band
Bass 80 hz +1
NF adjust to your preference of bass level.
With these settings, the trebble and mid sounds smoother overall.
