its a program that allows those who work in the automotive industry to get discounts for themselves or their family members.... they get one a year.

When I bought mine they were running $1500 off, I had $250 coupon from Mazda RevItUp, and had a $500 internet customer discount...... so I was going to get it for like $18,750 or something like that.... If I remember correctly X-Plan (errr the mazda equivelent) was something in that neighborhood so we didn't use the X-Plan on it.

When I got mine back in Feb., the X-Plan wasn't an option. They said it wasn't applicable to the Mazdaspeed cars. Sucks, too, because they get more than one a year, they get at least 4, so I would have been able to get one easily with 2 uncles that work for Ford.

Hey Lamp3,

I worked for a Mazda dealer in MN. I got my 2003 (#138 Black Mica) in January at around $19,500 (To customers was $20,500 non-negotiable). At the time our dealerships in the area were not honoring S-plan or E-plan because the MazdaSpeed is a specialty car. I am not sure what they are doing now.

I would guess that there is more room to negotiate now that more have been made--not to mention the other cars that have hit the market (but given the price difference and standard options...I LOVE MY SPEED!!!!!).

S and E plans are typically a % over or under invoice. I would check edmonds.com for an invoice price and go from there.

On a side note: I enjoyed working at the dealership that I did, and I think they run a very good business. I have continued my maintenance with them and they have taken care of all my "clunks" and windshields under warranty--just a note since I hear of many complaints on this forum of ignored issues.

On buying cars - Find a common agreement. Make sure you are happy with the price you're quoted, but allow them to benifit too. If both parties are happy then a good deal has been done. If you feel screwed then something wasn't right. Remember that business is business and that a profit has to be made. Get a good deal, but allow the salesperson to benifit too. Believe me when I say that I have been screwed many times on "new" car deals as a salesperson.

Personally I think Mazda has a great product across the board (especially in the last couple years) and are worth the money they are asking. (BTW: I no longer sell cars so this is not a "money making" opinion) In fact, given the % that Mazda has of the auto market, I'm suprised they don't cost more.

I welcome your emails if you have further questions.

MSP does not apply to the XPLAN. We were gonna pick up a second MSP for my wife but we were told it is not on the plan.

Besides I got a WAY better deal "sans" plan on a P5 for her.

The XPLAN is only good for trucks and Luxury SUV's.

I got it on the S/X plan. They applied it back in April. They had no problems with honoring it and I got the car for a little above 18,000. I then got the useless extended warranty (my husband said to for some crack ass reason). After that tax, title, and tags. I walked out paying 20,000.
I wish I would have waited a few months and then I could have saved at least 1,000 or more since they are going so much cheaper now. At the time, the dealership had them marked up to 22,000 or more.

With a specialty car such as the MSP it depends on the dealer wether or not they will sell the car on the x-plan. A lot of dealers won't honor the x-plan on the MSP because they figure they will be able to sell their entire alotment at or very near the MSRP. However, if the dealer will honor the x-plan than all rebates and incentives on the car are on top of the x-plan price. This is for example purposes only, if the MSRP for the MSP is $21,000 and the x-plan price is $18,800 and there is a $1500 rebate and $500 in dealer cash then your price would be $16,800 before taxes etc.

you'd think the MSP would be on one of the plans seeing as how "sucessful" it is ;)

I found only one dealer in my area willing to honor the X-plan price. It gave me $1200 off the $27,500 Canadian price and another $250 off the xtended warranty.

i had the option of s plan....it is just a little below dealer invoice. its not really worth it. you can talk a deal better than s plan. i got the wholesale price on this car and right now you can get way below wholesale. i got mine for 16.5 out the door. the problem is each dealer has its own dealer with whom they purchase so there is not telling how much they really pay for the cars. just start low and go up...never go down from sticker.

Lamp3,

You work for "Big Red" or something? I did get my MSP on the S-Plan, but they worked it because they weren't going to offer the S-Plan on the Mazda 6 (making too much money off of them). That knocked it from $21k to $19,500.

Definately take ThrillRide's advice when dealing though. Also, if you're a member of Costco (don't know if you have it in your location), they have an auto program where they have to show you what they paid for. Use that to your advantage if you can.

Good luck

I used the plan and got to $19,500 or so at invoice - $1500 discount. About $18K + TTL out the door.
