View Full Version : P5 Stalled While Idling!

My GF came over to pick me up in the morning today. She said she was just sitting in the car, and nothing else was on except for the headlights. She remember rolling up the driver side window, then all of a sudden, the car stalled. I've never seen an automatic stall while idling before, so I know there's gotta be something seriously wrong. I plan to take the P5 to Mazda soon, but would like to know if this has ever happened to anyone else, or if there is a recall/TSB for this. Thanks!

The idle speed might be off , or the MAF has a problem. I've never had that happen to me .

So, I brought it to Mazda and they said I didn't close the gas tank right. I let it go, but it died again last night.

Thanks for the replies.

i'd guess the idle controler on top of the throttle body is either loose or broken

The first time I messed with the engine bay on my car there were a couple of valve cover bolts loose and the intake was loose also. So check out the intake and the idle controler, cause you never know. The bit about the gas cap..... I would of been like "oh I'm sorry am I waisting your time? Check the car out ass"

Check your spark plug connections esp. the wires.

On top of the intake tube, just before the trottle body, there is something called a Purge Solenoid. It has two vaccum lines connected to it. One of the vaccum lines may be loose or have come off. Check especially for the vaccum line that runs to the top of the intake manifold.

just goto your dealer and give them hell about it.

I would defintely complain more..The car is covered under warranty..so don't even bother touching the engine..

The next time your car stalls call mazda. You paid for road side assistance. Make them tow the car to the dealer and then give them hell!!

Ok, update..

I brought it to Mazda about a month ago. They "upgraded the computer chip."

Just yesterday, the car stalled AGAIN. I did a search on the forums and it turns out that I'm not the only one. Some people have suggested the EGR valve. The car has 4800 miles now. It's time to start bitching.

:wtf:

upgraded the computer chip? that calls for a :wtf:

sounds like they just reset the ecu to me.

just check that every pipe around the IM and TB is connected properly and all the plugs are in correctly...

Brought it back for the uhhh 3rd or 4th time. The check engine light just came on right before the car went into Mazda service. This time the service advisor gave my gf a fkn Cavalier as a loaner car..

I told them to just keep the car until they find out what's wrong. I may just as well have a lemon here. :wtf: :wtf: :bs: :bs:

Hm.. update again:

They found a leak in the vacuum, but the parts won't be in until next Monday. It doesn't really sound right because they didn't call to update me. I had to call the service advisor, but he needed time to make up excuses, so his secretary told me he'll call me back.

Any updates? My p5 just stalled today while I was sitting in line at a 4-way intersection. Yes, it is an auto and it only has 4k miles! I notice now that it's idling at around 500-600rpms....I'm pretty sure it used to idle higher. Am I imgaging things, and will this happen again you think?
