i just wanted to say this is pretty awesome at 12psi, went at it with a srt-4 and got smoked off the line and well the rest of the way lol it was worth a shot. but went at it from a like 3000rpm in 3rd and drop to 2nd and we were goin bumper to bumper till we cut off in 4th and he was like half a car in front of me, this beeatch spiked at 14psi. i know if we would of kept going he would of pulled away. dude said it was the fastest speed he's seen, haha
so by far best inexpensive mod ever....JOEP MBC.

Yes it's fun, I'll agree, but I would be carefull. At 12psi you can easlily detonate and hit the fuel cut, are you running colder plugs and do you have JoeP's FCD?

ya i got the recommended plugs, havent heard any detonation but believe me im listening haha,
ive hit this cut like 3 times in the couple of days ive been running the mbc. but funny its only as i am goin to shift...never got the full effect of it cause i hit it right before i shifted....

I would highly recomend getting the FCD because as temp drops your going to be hitting it sooner and sooner in your RPM band. 12psi is awesome when it's hot, but even better when it's nice and chilly out, trust me there's a world of difference and you don't want to be hitting that cut just because the temp dropped.

(werd) A 20 degree drop in temps yields some surising speed, and greatens the danger of detonation due to more air. The MAF sensor will max out sooner and hit fuel cut sooner as a result. Also, detonation is often not loud enough to be audible to the human ear with all the sound deadening meterial our cars have, not to mention the wind and road noise. My J&S Ultrasafguard (http://www.jandssafeguard.com) can testify to that. Due to the fact that my fueling solution for my turbo application right now happens to be an FMU, sometimes the boost can raise up faster than the fuel pressure can rise to the occasion. This will cause brief (for like a second), temporary detonation on occassion. When my J&S knock/retard monitor starts lighting up (telling me how many degress of retard is in effect), I NEVER hear the detonation, because it is so subtle. I have heard hard ping before, but everysince I dialed in the active boost retard, the knock monitor rarely registers. The cool thing about all this is that on the occassions that I get subtle knock due to the boost rising so fast, the J&S is constantly listening for knock, while retarding the knocking cylinders only, and telling me which ones, and how far they are being retarded! This not only saves your engine from catastrophic faliure, but helps you keep the power by only retarding the offending cylinder when it hears knock(when in individual retard mode). Before I didn't even use the active boost retard, therefore the only retarding I was getting was when I detonated. Boost retard is adjustable to retard up to 1 degree per PSI of boost in 10 step mode, or up to 2 degrees per PSI of boost in 20 step mode. The only drawback to all this is that the unit is not user programable by RPM range. I honestly think that this may be a great solution for the Mazdaspeeds who want to up the boost, and safely know what's accually going on, while gaining power. I am now curious to see what these can do on a car such as the Mazdaspeed that has electronic fuel control that is more predictable? There are some who have put them on their WRX's with great results.

Yeah, ever since I heard detonation at 9psi I've been paranoid. I have colder plugs now, but haven't turned the boost back up yet because either something is wrong with my mbc, or the dealer fuked with my WG. Anyway...how much would that J&S unit run and is it difficult to install/operate?

I got a good deal on mine, but I can't remember the price of the J&S. You will also need the knock monitor gauge (52mm).

BTW...

The ease of operation is great! (thumb)

im pushing 13-14 psi sometimes spiking 15... or 14.9 close to 15.. i dont trust my autometer guage cuz its off by about 2 psi compared to my greddy profec b's readings.. so im going by the profec b, i have never hit a sing of detonation i have joe p's defenser and reducer. Its awesome how soon as that 12 psi hit bam u feel a jolt. its badass i love it..

boosting 12 psi when i ran a srt4 i stayed about half my car ahead of him until we hit 130, i dunno if he just couldn't drive but soon as i hit 130 my car speedo cut about 132 and he flew by me.

actually i wasn't driving jeremy aka (mp5raycer) was driving..

Hey linux, where can you buy this unit and which one is it that you buy? And where can you buy the gauge?

I raced a SRT-4 from 3rd gear, pulled him by a car at the end of 4th. 10psi, FCD, FPR, intake. BRAKE BOOST. :) When racing from a roll, hold down the brakes and gas so you remain going the same speed, you should be at full spool when you let off the brakes.

Brake boost?

Sorry, just added the description. Give it a try. Not great for the brakes, just don't hold them for a long time. You're putting more load on the car, so you start spooling when you're ready to take off.

I turned off e-mail notification a while back. Hey, better late than never. I just want to keep old shit updated. Also, when I see something new basically talking about what I suggested before, I link it in the new thread. I did that last night, and ended up seeing the new reply. :D Step off fool! (evil)

Anyways, see this thread to see why I brought this one back:
