No big deal, really. I hit 120 in my 1.6L miata - with 30? fewer HP.

:) I'm saying your original post came across as if "Miata's Can't do 120, here is the proof!" I'm just saying it SHOULD be able to reach 120... hehe :D
If I were to buy another Miata, It'd be a 10AE :D

;) Weight doesn't affect top speed. :D It just takes longer to GET there...that's all.

10 AE's RULE! :D
so, 120 is at 5300?? I always wondered just how tall the top gears were. My 5 speed 99 miata I used to have only did 128mph@7000. I have not dared to top my 10 AE yet.

Here's 140mph...15lbs boost on my 1990 Miata a couple of weeks ago. No, I have oil pressure, just have a mechanical oil pressue gauge...so the oem one is non-functional...
I need to install a 3.9:1 rear end to go faster...as I'm out of revs.

Flyin' Miata ecu. Redline set to 7,400rpm...tach isn't accurate at high revs, as this is still under 7,4oorpm according to the ecu's display unit.

Took my '99 Sport package Miata to 125 at 7000 RPM many times. That car just sucked to the ground at that speed. The only way I could tell that I was going so fast was the noise of the wind.
I've only gotten my MSP up to 120 so far. Only 550 miles on the clock though...so I want to ease her in a little.

holy crap!! im sure those miatas also have roll bars!! goodness, think of flipping at 155 with NO PROTECTION!
Keith@FP
09-02-2003, 01:46 PM
Of course they have roll bars. Not that they'd do a lot of good at 155. You'd want a full cage, a helmet, 6-point harnesses and a lot of luck in that case.
Instead, we just don't flip them.

120 in a 1.6 miata with the top down on a big deserted back road at night is pretty darn scary...speaking from experience that is.

Years ago I have an '83 RX-7 GSL and I hit 130 MPH, I was traveling downhill on a straight away, but it still took some time to get from 90 to 130.
my '91 tops out @ 115...Limited Edition BRG 5-spd. the wind in my hair (like 3 inches long) kinda bugs @ that speed tho...very scary

On the way to El Centro in Very East San Diego My GF was rollling at 125 in her 2002 for like 5 minutes no problems, she was a little nervous but did great, it has eibachs/bilstiens too so it feels great at speed. I got it to 130 by myself but this cars fun is low speed sliding around turns, 180 u turns ect, so fun to toss and catch. I need boost to turn it into high speed drifting!

160mph jaguar XKR 2003 on closed tri-oval test track...
ie: family day at the jaguar/volvo test center here in AZ.
Of course as I took off down the first stretch I noticed the sign that said 90mph speed limit, but I assumed they were joking on a track =P
I got out and my legs were shaking, good thing I had jeans on or people, would have thought I was about to collpase, never had that much adrenaline in me at one time.
so far 115 in my p5.

I got to 110mph on the track stock with K&N replacement filter (panel filter, not a cone) on my old 1.6. Spec Miata guys get to 115mph on the same track on their 1.6's. 120 isn't a big deal but it really is and should be done at the track with a helmet,...

I've only been able to get up to 108mph in the V8. Of course that's in 12.59 seconds and over a distance of 1/4 mile (http://www.v8miata.homestead.com/files/cecilno1.wmv). The turbo is faster, but slower.

Didn't think it was possible but with the current setup in my speed got it up to 140 with about 3000k in 4th... to go on the rpm band. Who knows how fast it'll actually go?

bullshit, you car doesn't do 3 million rpm.
also, ~3500rpm in 4th gear = 69 mph

I've been up to 180mph....of course that was in my dads friends Viper..on the track....it was ungawdly fast...I had the shakey leg syndrom, sweaty everything, and a grin on my face that was there for about a week afterwards...on a side note, he recently crashed that viper into the back of a truck..lucky for him it was a low truck, so he didn't go under...but he did break both legs, and got a nice little fine for going 130mph on the highway....questionable person, fast car...a real waste of a nice ACR viper

So far 140 in the evo getting on teh freeway. Got there much quicker than I thought I would. Pretty scary! 120 in 4th gear!! With the stock ECU the limit is 165-170. But with a simple flash some are reaching near 200.
