View Full Version : MAZDASPEED owners!!
For all of you that are frantically looking for more power so you can go out and whoop up on a Neon - you bought the wrong car. I have to wonder if they are as hung up on drag racing (or street racing) at (for instance) the WRX forums, as many of you are.
How many of you have 'actually' gone out looking for the "Back Road Boogie", or "twisties", and have fun that way. And; I don't mean pushing the envelope, on the edge of disaster, or racing one of your friends. (no)
Check it out sometime, and see what the MAZDASPEED is really about. Or yeah! Or Autocross.:p

I'm sure plenty of ppl do. For the locals in SD I've hit up sunrise highway, telegraph, the 67, and still want to hit up palomar as far as roads go. It's just there is more talk about drag racing. I do it, but can I beat a srt4? No, not yet. It would be nice to out run and out handle the pos car don't you think? It's kind of easier to find a 1/8 mile on the streets than nice turns so naturally that is where us "kids" are going to go heads up at or enjoy or need for speed.

Well I won't play with MSP's in autocross until I get an LSD. Coming out of corners in my Saturn SC2 was a bitch, let alone almost 100 more HP and countless amounts more torque.
That's one thing I learned being in the SCCA...the fastest car on the straights don't mean shit in auto-x. Hell I was beating up on cars that would embarrass me and not even have to shift into 3rd gear on the straightaway.
Please, let's not make this another SRT vs. MSP thread. Please?

AGR is trying to make that exact point, the MSP and SRT are diffrent cars, with different MOs. Enjoy them for what they are, not what they arnt.
As for soundbombing calling the SRT-4 a pos, Im pretty sure he missed AGRs point.

I understand the point he was trying to make. I'm just simplifying it for the people that couldn't decipher his post.

Hey, QwikSRT4, if your trying to prevent MSP vs SRT-4 threads becuase your tired of hearing all that crap, may I ask why you have a quote that pretty much dogs the MSP in favor of the SRT-4?

I was just thinking the same thing Cruzin! Hmm, let's see, sign up/log on to a PROTEGE board, and use a quote in your sig that bashes us. I don't care if it was someone else's quote or not, take it to a pos board. Whatever - if speed were the only thing in the world that mattered, oh nevermind...it's a moot point. And a beaten up one.
There is ALWAYS something/someone faster, I don't care who you are. I just happen to refuse to compromise SO MANY other features of a car just for the ONE thing that makes the Neon "special"...but that's why we all have opinions and preferences.
It may take more time, but my MSP will be PLENTY fast....

08-22-2003, 08:49 AM
well...yeah, the car excels in the corners, but does anyone here dispute that it would be even MORE fun if it were faster in a line or quicker on the draw?
Why rest on just one when you might be able to get both?
(rockon)
Yes,,, and that is what I was saying in another thread. Adding boost to around 10psi is really 'Grin-Worthy'. I'm lovin' it! And; it's not going over-the-top crazy. How much HP now? I would guesstimate maybe 190 before the wheels. Will I dyno it? Unlikely. I might use my buddies G-Tech Pro that is on loan to me, though.

Well, cuz I come in here and the MSP guys scanned through the Edmunds article and came through and made all the points that the writer said good about the the MSP.
I just thought I'd grab one for my SRT, that's all.
CruzinAltitude
08-22-2003, 09:08 AM
The diffrence is the MSP owners are probably not on the SRT forums complaining about MSP vs. SRT threads with those quotes as thier sigs. I may be wrong. . . or I just might be on to something.

Agreed Cruzin!...He comes on this board and finds us pointing out (or quoting) the positives of our cars. Go figure, the last time I checked it was a Mazda dedicated site...oh well, I've gotta get back to work anyway - such a pointless way to spend time for me right now...I'm easily distracted :D

I think the better question is: why are there trolls like you asking these kinds of questions? And, why do people respond? I'm responding because I'm in awe of Greg's uninformed, generalized, and ignorant opinion of everyone who owns an MSP.... It's a good example of the 'tude' I see on this forum... and I guess when people like Greg are bored, this is what he does.
What's worse is you ask a vague question as to whether people actually drive their car in an agressive way but, only in certain ways that only he understands what he's asking. There's no right answer. Especially without giving examples of what you've done, Troll. You have a sig file with huge racing groups... Do you belong to them? Have you raced at LeMans?
Do you know anything about 90% of the members here? I didn't think so... So, why bother posting your complete BS generalizations? Does that really get you off? Are you that bored?
I can't wait for your well-thought-out and insightful response... the suspense is killing me! ;)
I didn't start this thread so it could become a 'war zone'. Let's all get along. Okay?

Oxymoron? No I'm simply pointing out anytime the damn SRT-4 is mentioned on your guys' board it turns into a huge flame war...I just didn't want another one to start.

As for the original message in this thread - the handling in the MSP is very cool. A great place to take it as I recently found out is the Dragon's Tail in upper NC; not racing just putting it through its paces :D

'Lot of hate there, Carl! Get off? Not quite. Troll? What is that non-sensical Horseshit? (rofl) I have been a 'Speed owner since January, and I think there are mostly fantastic members here. I was simply stating that the MAZDASPEED isn't about drag racing.

Nothing personal. I'm sure you are a good guy. I noticed your profile. Hi-Fi,, Scotch - Excellent! (thumb)

If in fact as you Dear SRT-4 owner ascertain our MSP's are so far inferior to your Road Apple then why is it you are so inextricably drawn back this forum over and over again?
Just admit you have buyer’s remorse and this is your way of expressing your anger over your poor automotive shopping skills.
Just think of it (if thinking isn't too much to ask from a Neon owner) as therapy.
Don't worry that twisted little Neon owning head we're here for ya man!

I bought this car for:
1. Looks
2. Handling
3. A little Umph over the P5
I am happy w/ how fast it goes, since I do not street race like every other gay ricer down here in VA. I get a lot of rice civics and beat up old accords try to pull the let's race thing, and I just take off normal. I have nothing to prove to anyone.
Thank you and please continue this war.
Now where have YOU been Yash!? :D

Despite the obvious fact that the car looks great (inside and out)....I bought it for it`s handling!!!
Around here in Las Vegas, there is`nt too many places around here w/ twisties. But one of my favorites would have to be 215 @ night (pending on the traffic). There are times I could hit those bends doing 80 mph. without a hitch!!! And the car`s maneuverability is something to be MUCH desired!!!:p

Busy getting a bitching new house lined up. With a little luck and a blessing or two I shall have it all done by August 2004.
My house now is a really nice house but the new one...WILL RAWK!!!
ON topic...
I bought my MSP because it is the most well rounded car in the group.
Between the Neon and MSP I would say that I would rather have a car that achieves 90 some odd percent in all categories than 100% in the power department and 60% in all other aspects.
So if those so smitten by the dung-mobile are in disagreement, well I suppose they can cry themselves to sleep over their toilet tissue rolls.

WHO CARES ABOUT THE SRT4 ANYWAYS? ITS NOT EVEN AN IMPORT. HELL A CAMARO, A MUSTANG, A CORVETTE HELL THEY ALL ARE FASTER THAN A MSP BUT WHO CARES? NONE OF THE CARS LISTED ABOVE CAN EVEN HANG WITH THE MSP IN HANDLING. FOR THE DIFFRENCE IN PRICE BETWEEN THE MSP AND THE EVO AND STI I CAN MOD THE HELL OUT OF MY CAR. JUST WHAT I THINK NOT BASED ON ANY FACTS JUST A BUNCH OF BRAIN FARTS.

Okay okay okay...yashooa-
I don't have buyer's remorse. I don't regret buying my SRT one bit. Like I've said in other threads and in this one, I'm looking at buying a MSP for my wife, or I would have no interest in being over here....
...as for the Mazda/Dodge reliability issue, yeah Dodge may have a less reputable past in the reliability department than Mazda, but right now it seems that your MSP's are having a quite a few more problems than our SRT's. I'm not trying to start a flame war, I'm just stating the truth. So lets be cool okay?

No one buys a car for just one reason. Let's face it. That's why I bought the MSP. It's what I LIKE. If someone wants to buy an SRT, that's cool. Both are superior to the other in more than one way, and that's how it's supposed to be. When an SRT owner says that MSPs are slow for them...well agree! Just make sure they agree when you say that SRT's are ugly.

I like MSP that's why I bought it, end of discussion. as for me drag racing it's only for performance measurement. I only believe in track racing as the pure form of racing. drag racing only depends on reaction and your car and no endurance factor, but it does have its adrenaline rush. For the short attention span american, drag racing is better. for me I like F1 racing and WRC

hmm, as somebody that's owned TWO ACR first Gen Neons, I have to agree with that. The couple times I autox'd the MSP there was an SRT-4 and my old ACR neons beat it like a drum as did my MSP. Then one of the ACR guys and SRT-4 guys switched cars for fun runs and the SRT-4 still couldn't keep up.
Don't even bother asking why I sold the ACR Neons. They're great cars for 36,000 miles.... The local SRT-4 in our SCCA region has spent more time at the dealer than the owner had spent driving it.

There's really no need to bash one car or the other? I myself like all types of cars. The classics, the exotics, foreign and domestic. I was contemplating buying the SRT4 or the MSP. I drove a neon before getting my MSP...it was a hand-me-down but it sufficed during college. SRT4 has the kick ass power...and I was sooo tempted. But I weighed the pros and cons.
I didn't like the fact that the back windows weren't automatic. The rims were not desireable. and the interior was lacking.
MSP small turbo...wish the engine was 2.4L. Wish the intercooler was bigger than that dinky thing they gave us. Wish the engine was revamped for more boost..instead of being a stock protege engine.
What won me over was the fact that I wanted a nice cruising car. I love the sleek styling, the big fog lights and the booming MP3 system. I liked the comfort of having all windows power and the 5 spoke racing harts kick ass. I love both cars, yet I wonder why people bash them.
The only solution is buying a Ferrari, or Porsche GT3, or a McLaren....and saying F***k you all I got the best car...LOL (hopefully no one takes offense to this)
