This thread offends alexlitov.
Well, my MSP seems to be a cop magnet.. it really seems like cops profile me based on the car I drive. Last week, I made a left turn onto a street.. and a cop was coming from the right.. so I turned in front of him. He was pretty far away, but after I turned... he sped up and pulled me over and claimed that I cut him off. So he gave me a ticket for my insurance being expired... (they never sent me the new slip :( ). So now I have to go to court for that one and pleed not guilty, which will cost about $60.
Tonight I'm driving down a side street... just driving normal with my music loud.. around 8:45 or so.. and there were cops on bikes at the end of the road. So they start to talk to me.. and they're like.. "Was that you who burned out back there!?" I'm like.. "no.. but some car almost backed up into me.." (car pulling out of a parking lot in reverse mind you, so I'm not really sure if the "burnout" that they heard was the guy slamming on his brakes.. me swerving around him.. or just the noise of my bpv cuz of my cai) So anyways.. they were like.. "we'll be watching you." So I'm like all flustered by this point, and I make a left turn to find a parking spot. There weren't any spots, so I'm at the red light at the end of the street.. and the guys pull up on the bikes and they're like.. "Pull over over here!"....... "do you know why I'm pulling you over?" I'm like.. "honestly... not really?" He goes "There's a sign that says you can't make a left turn back there."
So I'm not sure if I have really bad luck... or my MSP gets cops attention. :(
Anyways, that's 2 court dates for me to set up.. *sigh*

(they never sent me the new slip)
most times if you go to court and show them you indeed have insurance at the time of the ticket, they will completely throw the ticket out of court and you shouldnt have to pay a penny. for example i didnt have my new insurance card on me, i just had one that showed my insurance was expired when i got pulled over. when i went to court i took my new card that showed the effective date of the insurance was before the day i got pulled over. the judge reprimanded me for not carrying an updated card, but had to throw it out because i technically did have insurance at the time.

how does that work.... when u plead not guilty.. u set up another date for court.. then u and the cop go 1 on 1 in front of the judge... shouldnt the cop say anything bout it? like u r lying?

as far as the insurance goes, I didnt even have to go to court, just mail in the ticket with a xerox of my proof of insurance and thats the last I heard.

dude
they were on bikes
you should have ran you idiot
I would have loved to see thoose mo-fuckers try and peddle after you
I am kidding
I have the same problem in my car, almost every time I am driving late I get followed by a cop, sometimes by 3 different cars on the same night.
My record so far is being followed by 5 different cops (not all at once) in about a 1 hour time frame

i know how you guys feel i got pulled over three times for an "illegal" temporary tag given to me by the dealership. But all 3 times i had a car behind me and the cop was going the opposite direction. hmmmm

Just in case anyone is thinking of this - in NJ, they changed the laws so that an officer can have a fellow officer serve as their representative witness.
But still, I fight any ticket I get. You talk to the prosecutor, and they have you plea bargain to a lesser charge, which usually is not technically a moving violation. Towns and Municipalities go for this because it means more money goes to them instead of the insurance company and the state.
Know the system.

I also got pulled over twice in less then 2 weeks! I got first pulled over on a Friday night after the movies on I95 at 2am... I was tracked by some cop and I was going 82. Second time I took a yellow light and the cop swore I took a red (which I really didn't!). I hate it when cops have nothing better to do then give petty tickets. Go out and fight drugs or something, not by filling your quota with silly tickets.

(werd) I got pulled over for rolling through a stop sign, and then he got me for 50 in a 25 as well. I knew for a fact I wasn't doing 50, so I fought it. The cop didn't show up:) Case was droppped.
As far as the insurance, I've gotten that too. It's basically a fix-it ticket. Bring it to your local courthouse, show them the proof that you were legally insured, and they will write it off.
I definately say fight it though. Worse case scenario is like what Micah said...They don't want to make a big deal out of it. They'd rather fine you and be done with it then put a point on your record.

No I pretty much went right to the lawyers office the next day to give him my retainer as I was sure I would need one!I DID!
It cost me about $3000 when it was all said and done with the lawyer and fines and reinstatement!
Oh well?It was years ago.
LESSON LEARNED!

about 10 yrs ago when I was a senior in high school...(fuck I am feeling old), my buddy and I skipped school to go up towards Chicago for the day. We get on I-94 with my 93 civic si and decide to see how fast I can get it up to. I was pushing 115 when I saw a car sitting in the median. Needless to say, I slammed on the brakes, passed him doing 65. Sounds okay right...nope! Tailed me for about 2 miles before pulling me over. Comes up to the window and asks me how fast I thought I was going. "68ish" I said, then he says...."why don't you step out of the car and come join me in my cruiser.
By this time I am shitting bricks! Get in the front passenger seat, radar gun is sitting at 92. Thinking to myself "Fuck, I am either going to jail or they are going to leave me out here and tow away my car"
After admitting I was going insanely fast, he then tells me that I was in a 55mph zone. Then he proceeds to tell me that he has a son my age and wouldn't want anything bad to happen to their driving record if they got pulled over. Hands me the ticket.....62 in a 55!!!
So I told him that I loved him and asked for a hug...he just laughed and told me to get the hell out of his car!
Moral of my story, there should be more cops out there that either:
A) They were young and stupid at one point in time.
B) Have kids our age that do the same stupid shit!!!

Actually, damn the PIGS for being so F-ing inconsistant. In a liberal state like mine the pigs have nothing better to do than pull you over for stupid shit. There's way too many of them, and since they have nothing to do, they almost always show up in court and their word is inevitably golden to the judge.

You dont have to try to look like a badass! Look at your car!! If you have a car that looks fast you get profiled. Sucks but it is how it works.
