I have to take my car in for warranty work on Wed night for service on Thurs, and the service guy told me that I can't get a loaner car cause I'm under 25!!! IS THIS TRUE GUYS? If not, I'm gonna call back and complain!

In Michigan, at least, you can't rent a car unless you're 25 or over. When I took my car in for service, they took me to Enterprise Rent-A-Car for the loaner (wish I could have gotten one from the dealer instead). They paid for it, but they have to abide by the rules of Enterprise. Luckily 25 passed me long ago.

yup...most of the car rental places and dealerships won't rent to those under 25...some will rent at 21 but will end up charging you more...

In california the same under 25 thing applies. Generally they will rent to under 25 at higher fees. My dealer gets loaner cars through enterprise and I had no problems getting a loaner totally paid for by the dealer despite being only 23.

if you are in college, there might be some rental place near that will rent to students. IU has it's own rental service, I don't know about other schools.

my dealer in Ohio told me I'd have to be 21 to receive the loaner car. But being the nice people that they are, they loaned me their 2002 Mecury Sable because I'll be 21 in October. What nice people they are. The Sable was actually a very nice car too.

Well, I'm 22, and when I told him this, he was like WHOOAAA... NO CAN DO. I'm so pissed... now when I have to take my car in for real service, I'll have to get someone to take me home!

I have got the shaft on this issue so many times. Its BS i buy the damn car they ought to give me a loaner. I always have my mom go with me and she gets the loaner.

My old dealer Hamilton Mazda/VW they gave me a loaner car, but their service blew. So i went to faulkner in philly and they wouldnt give me one.

I would call and bitch to Mazda. I am almost positive that with all new car purchases there is a Loaner Car program through Mazda regardless of age. I know there is on my 6, and I know there was one on my Protege5 when I bought it in October '02. Read through your original paperwork and see if you can see any fine print about age being a factor. BTW, I am only 24 and they have never said a word about it to me...

I can get a loaner car though the dealership's in-house rental company and I'm 21. I guess it depends on locality..

I'm 23 (to young to rent a car in MA) and twice already my dealership has given me one of their cars when mine was in for service. Both times they were of the 2001 626 variety and all I did was sign a piece of paper and keep it in the car at all times.

If they tell you that you can't get a loaner, ask for one of their fleet vehicles...if they don't give you one, hold your breath until your head turns purple.

Usually the dealer subs out the loaner car to let say enterprise (that who my dealer uses) its there rule to be 25 not the dealers. My first dealer hamilton VW mazda would give me a loaner because it was there own company loaner car.
