I'm trying to figure out what exactly which part of the VTCS hooks into the ECU. I took some pictures on my MP3 and what looks to be an empty slot (VTCS?) that just doesn't have the hoses or wiring. Anyone know?

another pic, as you can see nothing is hooked into the closest "thing"

Thanks (thumb). ALSO does ANYONE know if the MP3 and P5 have the EXACT same wire harness? (why would they make them different?) and IF SO, that means the plug has got to be laying around the engine somewhere!!

Looking straight ahead at it front the front of the motor:
VTCS solenoid-Starting on the left of the plug Red right wire is White/Red

VICS vacuum control line-Starting on left of plug Red/Blue and Right is White Red.

All these go into the main run of wire just behind the fuel rail.

anyone know if i should plug the holes on the VTCS solenoid before i wire it in? would that burn it out though?

maybe white/red wire is ground? anyone know? (since they both goto the VTCS and VICS?)

REMiller, do you on the P5 have this object with a yellow/blue and red wire going into it? (I'm wondering because this red wire is in the vicinity of the VTCS and maybe just maybe its the same red wire, or if you have it too, prolly not)

No don't think it is the same wire.
Actually on second look the wire going to the VTCS on the left is Pink. I thought it was red cause of my male brain but it is pink. I'll snap a pic later tonight and post it. Maybe the heat changed the color but it is pink all around so doubt that.

You can plug the VTCS selnoid up if you wish:
From TheMan:

Disabling the system is illegal, however possible. All that needs to be done is to unplug the vacuum line that leads from the solenoid and plug the hole on the solenoid and the disconnected vacuum line. This will be the fitting that faces upwards on the solenoid.

we're getting somewhere, thanks REMillers!!

I found this same setup on my brothers 2000 Mazda Protege. I took some pics. the right side wire is same color as you mentioned above. I am just one step closer! now, does ANYONE know or could find out if the wireharness to a protege mp3 is the same part same everything as a harness from a any year protege/protege5. You'd think they would... but someone tell me fo sure please!! :)

I got pics of the wire plug and such if you still want them.

I'll also call my Mazda Dealers parts department since they are actually helpful and see what they say.
I would think the harness is the same, it was just the ECU was tuned differently. But couldn't hurt to least see if the part numbers are the same.
I had a parts listing but seem to be missing the engine parts right now :(
