It's a shame really... Are seats look SWEET!!! If you have an orange like me, it's even better since the stitching matches the exterior. Yet... there's like no side support!!! WTF is up with that Mazda???? My girl's Sentra SE has FAR better seats... Anyway, part of me wants to look into getting better seats put in there. Obviously there'd be a sacrifice involved. (in the looks dept at least) but... though it has nothing to do with performance, I believe our cars would FEEL faster with better buckets. That could be why so many people are creaming int their pants over the new srt. Anywayz...

Has anyone done this??? If so, how much did it cost? How easy was it? Did you do it yourself or bring it somewhere????

Thanks

I haven't checked yet (not much time left after washing my Black Mica every day) but I wondered if there would be enough slack in the covers to get a better bolstered seat and then put our original covers on it. The cover is probably molded to the stock seat's specific shape though. It's worth checking out though.

I got the Sparco torino's for my MSP.I love the seats. They are of the highest quality and very nice for the eyes.I had them in another one of my car's and absolutely loved them! They have killer side bolstering and support.Riding in them does make your car feel nicer also. They are not cheap though. They ran almost 1600 for the pair with all the hardware and adaters to fit the protege.
Money well spent in my opinion!
Matt:)

I installed black Recaro SRD's with red stitching that I had custom uphostered in Novasuede for the inserts and also had the rear seats re-uphostered to match. It looks like what the Mazdaspeed should have come with stock. I will post pictures soon.

Damn....I have to get a pair of those Sparcos. It's unbelievable that my buddy's Focus ZX5 has more side bolstering than our MSPs.:'(

Hell yeah!!! Those seats ROCK!!! hard to justify spending the extra dough (unfortuneatly) especially when that (with all the performance upgrades I want) would easily put me into WRX price territory... which would make no sense at all. (I would have got that if i could have afforded it) Nonetheless, if you have the dough... I say HELL YEAH!!!

IF ONLY MAZDA SPENT AN EXTRA $3.75 FOR SOME SIDE BOLSTERING!!!!! I MEAN, HELLO???????????

How are those sparcos on long distances? I want new seats as well... not just for side bolstering, but for comfort. I drive an hour one way to work, and the stock seats kinda suck for comfort ... Did you guys install the seats yourselves?

upsman
07-17-2003, 10:50 PM
I installed them myself...easy. As for comfort on a long trip. I sat in them...drove for 2 1/2 hrs straight and never even felt the desire to adjust my position. Way more comfortable than the stock ones...they also mold to your body after awhile.

I have to say the seats that are bad ass i think are the ones that come in the new RX-8. i just seen it today at the dealer ship. The whole car is sweeeeet! wish i had a few more G's i woulda got that rather than my speed. I still love my titanium speed though. By the way if you get a chance sit in the RX-8 its a great feeling.

Do you think anyone will notice if I sneak into the Mazda dealership one night and switch my seats with an RX-8? I mean... it's not like I'm putting seats in from a Chevy Astro Van!! At least they're made by the same company!

All kidding aside, isn't it odd that we got all this "high performance" crap like the silly little shift nob that says sparco and the alluminum pedals that only our feet see... yet, Mazda skimps on the seats. Sure, they look cool but... let's face it, all they are is reopolstered (sp?) Protege seats. They missed the boat on this one... But hey, we can't complain! After all! We bought the damn car!! Probably not as big of a deal as I'm making it out to be... but hey, it would be nice not to end up in my girl's lap every time I take a hard left. Hmm.... on second though! lmao

OK bros, someone tell me

1) Where we can get those Mazdaspeed seats?
2) Do they bolt into the stock mounts?
3) Are they fully adjustable (i.e. sliding and reclining)?
4) Can you use the stock seatbelts for daily driving?
5) Can you install a harness for racing?

I appreciate the responses.

Peace...(hippy)

crdms1 those mazdspeed seats can be purchased from corksport. They cost as much as the sparco torinos. as for your other questions I'm sure if you called corksport they would probally help you out in that area. If you find out anything let use know.

Those second pair of seats are better. They are Mazdaspeed type f seats. There are a few places that can order them for you. They will "match" the interior better because they are covered with the same faux suede that our cars have right now. The only thing that is bad about those seats are the prices. It will cost you about $2,200 to get the seats, the brackets and the insurance to send them from Japan. Depending on where you go, it also takes two months (Corksport) or five days (Taka Kaira) to get. Good luck.

Aww hell I'm going to the A2 classifieds board on VWVortex and finding some used VW Recaros - old school, but GREAT seats. Then I have to find someone who can weld, and fab up a bracket or get a bracket from Recaro - they're pretty standard if you get the right seats ('89 GLI black/grey...). Then fab up some seatbelt brackets, and get a loan to pay for the fabbing.

doggone it I wish I could weld...

Maybe I'll just chill with the seats I have - they're not THAT bad (go sit in a Matrix...)

(omg) (shocked) Yikes! That's some good info right there, thanks. Looks like I'll be looking more at the Sparcos then.

Why not go with a cam buckle racing harness while you're saving up for the seats? i put a set of Safeline's in, 3 inch wide belt and 1.5 inch sub straps to rings at the front seat bolts. Didn't put in the shoulder straps. Works great for autox and only about $100.

with the sparco torinos, does sparco make brackets for the msp? will the protege 01 and up brackets fit the msp? any feedback is appreciated.

I have the Torinos and I love them. People come up to the car and when they see the seats they start drooling. They are quite a bit stiffer than stock though, and after about 5 hours in the car you know you've been driving. For backroad charging and autocrossing though they are great as you could well imagine. I wish i waited for Sparco brackets mine were a custom fab mint $$$.
The reason they didn't come stock is money, they are bloody expensive.

azian6er
07-20-2003, 02:09 AM
so yes they do make them for the msp, or yes the brackets for the 01 and up protege sedan will work?? Thanks..

All the brackets for the Pros are the same...they will fit.

upsman-- i was looking at the pics of the torinos in your car and the brackets you have do not look similar to the ones that i have in my car. That is why i am curious.

upsman
07-20-2003, 12:29 PM
The stock seats and rails come out of the car totally...there will be nothing left but your floorboard.

When you get the Sparcos, you buy the seats, sliders (makes the seats slide forward and back) and the seat base. Nothin original stays in the car. Trust me.

azian6er
07-20-2003, 08:10 PM
you are right totally. I went out and looked at it and the sliders and brackets look the same as yours.

Are the brackets and sliders same for both sides. or are they side specific, like left side and right side? I am asking this only because i am just ordering 1 seat for now. Thanks again --bryan

upsman
07-20-2003, 09:27 PM
OK lets get this straight...if you want sparcos you take the seat AND mounts/sliders out.

When you buy the sparcos...you buy all new sliders and seat base. The sliders are unversal to all cars to fit the sparcos. The seat base is what makes the seat and sliders fit in "your" car. "The base is the only car-specific parts." Yes they are different from passenger to driver-side.

Soo...sliders are the same...the seat base is different from left side to right side

Just want to say this is some good info ya'll are giving out. I'm interested in a pair as well so if/when you get yours asian6, let us know how the install was and where you got them and if you're happy. Oh, and post some pics too --- are you thinking of the all black seats or the black and gray?

azian6er
07-21-2003, 02:32 PM
hey so what did you, upsman, use to attatch the sliders to the seats? Did you use this "tab kit" that they sell or did you just use some bolts from the hardware store?

Thanks again, --bryan
