Is there any news on whether the MX Sport Tourer hybrid concept car will ever make it to production and in the relatively near future?
I hadn't thought they were contemplating production at all until I saw a prediction in Motor Trend that some vehicle based on the Sport Tourer will come along in 2005.
Does anyone believe this could be true?
If so, I'd love it! I love the idea of this hatchback/pickup/hybrid/4x4 with CVT. It would almost be the best combination of concepts and technologies possible today.
I'm sceptical though that it could happen and even if it did, I can't imagine the thing would be remotely affordable. :(

No, the MX-Sportif has become the Mazda3. I think there are no current plans to bring the MX Sport Tourer concept hybrid to reality, yet. Maybe in a few years when the MPV needs replacement.

It would make sense to me if the MS XDport Tourer were seen as a bit ambitious to make it to production.
Its just that Motor Trend is a fairly reputable source, not usually prone to wild accusations. And I've seen a lot of their predictions come true.
Like for the Mazda3. Long before people even knew this car was coming along, Motor Trend was predicting the Protege replacement would have 2.0L and 2.3L engines for the US. Only recently has that been confirmed on the official US website.
But I saw no other source amking that prediction before they did.
Maybe they will be right about the 2005 release of some kind of hybrid based on the Sport Tourer.
I've got a glimmer of hope. If they do, it would be awesome. :D
