ok mech came. he said it's gonna be 3 grand. and it will look like new. i trust this guy, cuz he is my mech and body guy. i got the corolla painted candy blue at his shop.
anyways, i'm now debating wether to sell the speed for parts or have insurance pay. my family can live on 2 cars, but it was a crunch b4 and it will be again if i decide to toast the speed. gimme help, please.

did he explain what caused the steering to go out ?
wouldn't make sense to get it " Fixed" only to have the damn thing go out again and possibly kill you or a loved one.
would also be a good thing for all protege owners to know if this fault is inherent in All Proteges or if it was particular only to yours.
btw: Glad to hear you're ok and if you plan on Parting out ... ummm ... may I have dibs on whatever's salvageable from the Suspension ? ( Springs , Struts, Sway, etc ) =)

na i don't think i'm gonna part out. hopefully it was just on my protege and not anyone elses. with that said, everyone please be weary and drive with some sense of knowledge and control.

what kind of tire pressure did the tires have?
was there any sign of 3 wheel motion (possible cause for skid mark)

wow...talk about feeling like a total and complete utter fool! lol j\k...naa life just sucks soemtrimes and then there r people who rub it in lol

rx kevin, i don't know what 3-wheel motion feels like so i couldn't tell you. but it was during the turn, so there were g-forces involved.
yeah that damn civic pissed me off.

sounds to me like the lsd did you in, were you punching it when you started to "lose control" ? the LSD will pull you closer into the turn.

when the tires started screeching, i got on the brake. then the steering wheel went all crazy and i got messed up. and it caused me to get too wide

bad move! when your loseing it dont hit the braked just let off the gas or slam the gas. hitting the brake will cause your back end to come around and lose controle.

That is exactly what happened dood, you lost control a bit, slammed on the brakes, the ABS kicked in (that is why you steering felt all weird, at an angle of turn, and ABS kicking in, the vibrations will make the steering feel wierd) and the car continued to slide out.
Not flaming ya bro, jsut trying to help you figure out what couldve happened. In an LSD equipped car, all you needed to do was point the wheels in the direction you wanted, and hit the gas.

DooD, Dont feel stupid, I have done that in the past also. Many have, its all part of learning. Unfortunatly, it can cost a bit in the process.
I ripped the whole passanger side suspension off my CRX-B16t like that. unfortunalty, it was still in its young life as a project, and I only had liability on it. So it was parted out, and now lives a life as a pop can or something. :D

what speed were you going at and how sharp was the turn for you to lose control?
AFaceInTheCrowd
07-05-2003, 08:37 PM
thanks for the kind words everyone, i need them.
i was goin about 25-30, the turn was greater than a 90 deg. maybe like a 110 or 120. so it wasn't sharp. that civic that pissed me off came by at like 35 so he was goin faster than me.

Guys, this is why I autox. You get to practice what the car feels like at the limit of adhesion in a safe environment. That means you can lose it, spin the car and not hit anything. Cheap learning!

sorry to hear man..
so abs hurts, not helps when u lose it in a turn?
jonnydoe48
07-06-2003, 04:22 AM
i think abs is for traffic situations. it stops the steering so you dont end up into oncoming traffic or something, i dunno thats just 1 example
unwrittenLaw

I thought abs was supposed to help you maintain steering under heavy breaking...
