So I was out at Bigger's Mazda out here in Elgin, IL and it turns out the Mazda Rep for the entire IL state hangs out there, and is pretty much stationed out of that dealship, well sufice to say in talking to him I learned some pretty interesting things. For one according to him and Mazda they fully understand that people are going to Mod there Speeds and will typically cover anything that happens to it under warrenty as long as it's not major mods like different sized turbo's and the such. Also according to him they fully understand people are going to be racing this car, and driving it hard and if you fry your clutch out they will replace it under warrenty because again they know that hey it happens but oh well. He wasn't sure on the whole hestiation thing and was going to get back to me on it.

Also as a side note, if you live in IL and want a real dealship to go to, head out to Bigger's Mazda, they actually know what the hell they are talking about, there the number 1 rated dealship in the state for Mazda, and they handle the most Speeds out of any dealship. The service manager used to work for Pugi and he and I got talking and we agree on them being asses. So that's were my speed is going.

is there any way i can go down to another dealer in my area, and still be under warranty? or is it just with the specific dealer?

No, Johnny, any Mazdaspeed authorized dealer can do your warenty work. And if the work isn't for something specific to the Mazdaspeed (for example, electric windows quit working) then any Mazda dealer can do it.

Guess it would all depend on how many miles you have on your car for them to replace the clutch. Now if it is low miles then yes they probably will, but put some more miles and they won't.

And no some dealers do whine about the tire wear being low on some cars. Guess it just depends on how anal your dealer is.

My car now has 10,498 miles on it and as OrangeMSP said, it's in the shop for the clutch. It was totally fried and it was apparent I had been racing the hell out of the car. I had a hell of a time having it replaced, though. Regional service manager didn't want to do it but the service advisor finally did it after talking to me and warning me not to do it again.

Sorry, but that guy's full of shit.

I reread what you typed and it sounds like he was speaking on behalf of himself or "his" dealership, not Mazda in general.

I forget the guys exact name but Jim the owner was standing right there, along with Don the finance manager and the head of the service department when the rep said it. Come on now, if we can't believe the Mazda rep's themselves who can we trust? See I think in a lot of cases were we're running into problems with getting warrenty work done, and things of that nature, are more dealer specific, and service reps being lazy and not wanting to help out the "young and dumb" kid. I am still amazed at how even being 22 people give you a hard time about being a "kid" and not knowing anything. It's scary when you pull up in your car and tell the service people what's wrong and they go "well we'll see about that, but it's probably somthing else, we're trained" and then they come back to you an hour later telling you the exact same thing you told them was wrong. Quite frankly I think most car deaerships should rot in hell, sorry hope no one here works for one.

I do i work for a honda dealership and ive been in the car business since i was 20 im 29 now and i love it. Sure there going to treat you like shit when you go in for service but ill tell you how to get back at them. They send you a survey from mazda on all warrenty work not C.O.D. work. So if its warrenty work and your not happy with them then you SLAM them on the survey give them the lowets score possible you can give it will cut there bonus down for the service dept. and they will problet call you to give you something free. Also when you go in for service tell the service advisor you want to ride with the tech who works on your car to see if he can duplicate the same problem you have a concern with. And ask for the most experienced tech that knows about your car MAZDASPeEDS that is. They have 1 or 2 who are trained on this vehicle. then asl to speak to the tech after you pick up your car to find out what he did to your car. Just trying to help you guys out a little bit. I have a 03 mazdaspeed also with alot of mods to it and i know the GM where i bought mine from but still it wont help the reps make all the decisisons on the cars. Or the service director will but you will have to put the car back stock for the warrenty issue. What i would suggest is take your car into service for issues at one dealer and if something goes really wrong put it back to stock and choose another dealership to go to the havent seen your car and they wont know its been modified either. Keep everything factory like oil filters that kida stuff. So good luck guys

"if we can't believe the Mazda rep's themselves who can we trust"

omg is that funny. When I was dealing with the clunk the first Mazda rep I met didn't do a damn thing. now the guy I got now is great. But let me tell ya, went through quite a few Mazda guys before I found someone that cared. I think this is more of a individual personallity thing then a Mazda in general thing. If that guy your talking to cares....then go nowhere else.

just b/c a few people got there clutch replaced after they brunt the shit off of it doens't mean any thing. 90% of the time your dealer will tell you to get lost and they won't cover it. It is a normal wear and tare part. The clutch is in the same category as your windshield. 90% of the time they won't replaced but if you find a service manager in a good mood and you bitch to him enough they will replaced it for you.

That may be true that most dealers won't replace your clutch since it's a basic wear and tear part. But if Biggers Mazda CLAIMS to replace it, then it's worth a shot. I'm going to try it if mine ever goes out.

dudes, my dealer is awesome. its alhambra mazda in california.

well lemme tell you about my first service there. i needed an oil change (too hot to diy). so i buy my oil and filter and go over there. the guy said that it would cost $12 for labor and disposal. i was like "alright." so i chill on the lot and check out the row of 03.5 blazin yellow speeds that just got off loaded. along with a dealer modded protege with mp5 front end conversion(headlights, bumper and fogs). looked decent but had altezzas. so i'm chillin and i see my salesman that sold me the speed. to my surprise, he still remembered me! then we went back to the 03.5s and talked car. a little later, he got a page so he had to go. i go back to the lounge and chill. a little later my speed pulls up and gets parked by a service guy. i go out to look at my car. the service guy gets out and starts talkin to me all excited. he started rambling about all the stuff i could do, like aluminum pipes, 3" exhaust, carbon hood, blah blah. i'm all surprised at this. so we talk car a little then he gets called back to work. so he tells me to wait in the lounge while the service manager completes the paperwork and enters records. about 5 min later oscar, the service manager, comes in. he says its ready to go. he also compliments me on my turbo timer saying that it was a good thing to have to keep the turbo running well. so he hands the cashier my bill and says that he has a "surprise" for me. so i grab my $20 and wait for the cashier to ring me up. i get the bill to sign and it says $0.00! i thought, "wow this is tyte". so i go outside and oscar asks me how i liked it. i responded that it was cool and got into my car and left. they are one of the best dealers around. not many can say this, but going to the dealer was a high point in my day.

my dealer is like that. hell my sales man said that if they couldnt get the msp in (thankfully they did) he was gonna sell me a protege 5 with the jspec cams, injen intake, 2.5inch catback and any other lil odds and ends i could come up with... all under warrente. i guess thats why spool is hooked up with my dealer

afaceinthecrowd---- that's cool and all, but i can't believe they said they were going to charge you anyway. most dealerships give your first oil change (sometimes a year) free of charge.. i know mine is. i'm getting ready to go get my first probably next week. and i don't have to pay a dime or buy oil or filter. it's cool that they approved of your turbo timer. my dealership said they wouldn't even install one. they said if it was meant to be on my car, or beneficial to be on my car then mazda would offer it.. i talked to the mazdaspeed tech, and he said he's installed a lot of them and thinks it's a great investment. just goes to show that the ppl behind the desk don't give a shit about customers.. even my salesman said a turbo timer would be good to have.. dealerships are shady.. it's all about personality and what mood they're in that day.. where is this dealership at in illinois that everyone is talking about? might need to pay them a visit.

I remember seeing in my paperwork that Mazda will warranty all wear items (clutch, brakes, ect) for the first 12k miles.

Just to add fuel to the fire.... yeah it depends on the dealership, at a local VW and BMW dealership that I worked at, I replaced MANY clutches, tires and brake pads under warranty. Everything from GTi's to M3's, some VERY obviously raced, tires never rotated after about 15K miles (supposed to be 5K for VW), etc...

I even replaced a turbo on a lady's Passat, with 40K miles on it. VW split the cost with the moron even though she had only changed her oil THREE times during the 40K!!! There was less than a quart and a half in the oil pan when I drained it, and the turbo and heatsheilding around it were all yellow and blue from being totally overheated. It all depends on how much your dealership values customer service.

Wow...3 oil changes in 40K miles? Nice..
