The hesitation, smell from the car, clunk and other problems that should never be the result of a brand new car finally got to me....i just traded in my Black Mica MSP for a 02' SVT cobra :) loved the msp and look foward to seeing you old fellow MSP owners on the road. just wish mazda could have been somewhat logical in dealing with the problems they created.

How much did you loose by trading it in?

Makes me wonder how much they'd give me for a three month old MSP with 10,500 miles on it.. :D

That's very good in my opinion...I'm at 10,300 miles in about 6 months(parked for 2 of those months). I figured i'd get hosed on a deal, so I never bothered looking at a trade in. A WRX sure would be nice though:)

Wow, that a great price for 2800 miles. I know someone now that wants to sell his orange MSP with 5100 miles. He changed his mind and wants the Mazda RX-8 instead. Anyways, he's asking for $16,000 and still no takers.

Whatever floats your boat dood...I still see guys driving Z28's too.....I just love when guys show up at Autocrosses with these things.....powersliding cone plowers.

I'd seriously consider it, but figure I'd get completely hosed doing so. Not to mention that some dealerships may not want to take the car off my hands due to the radical colour.

Impatient :).. I know it sucks having to tune a factory stock car, but with a little tuning, the cars run fine. I haven't felt a stumble for as long as I can remember with my car :).. It just needs some TLC. I actually tried an idea I had a few weeks back the other day, I will keep you guys posted on how it works. If it works the way I think, it should almost eliminate the stumbles altogether for everyone (combined with my FPR kit :) ) and allow about 2 more psi max without detonating- best of all- it is free for you guys to do :).. I will also probably be offering another boost switch setup to cut timing back at high boost to try to squeeze a bit more psi out of pump gas :). I'll keep you posted

My MSP has been the best handling car I've ever owned - don't get me wrong. But due to the fact that sooo many things have been happening, and I am patient, but keep getting crap fed to me from Mazda Canada.
So, let me list my problems:
1. Cracked windshield (stress crack - 1st week of ownership)
2. Clunk - need I say more. The replacement D's are starting to fail to BTW.
3. Suspension creeks when cold....I guess I can live with that since it's a "characterictic of a racing suspension says Mazda" :bs:
4. Radio - acted up numerous times....had to perform a manually reset to have my deck function correctly. Tweater has cut out too...then comes back on. So far though, it's been working fine.
5. STALLING - need I say more.....I have spoken directly to Mazda Canada about this safety concern. The car is not reliable to drive which really bothers me.
6. Alarm - even crancked to it's "least sensitive" position, a car passing by, or plane overhead still sets it off. I park underground and needless to say the parking attendents wanted me to do something about fixing it. My fix - don't arm it which defeats the purpose of the friggen alarm to begin with. Too bad this wasn't an option, 'cause I wouldn't of chosen it.
Anyways, too many problems for a brand new vehicle. Yes, all cars have their problems, but the way Mazda is dealing with it by providing us, the consumers, no ETA's for any fixes/updates, ticks me off.

yes i know a new cobra is $35k but my best friend works at ford-reason why i bought the msp in the first place....i used his company discount and got frustrated the cobra i bought had 30k miles on it and is in perfect condition regardless i payed as much for the 02' cobra with 30K miles as the MSP with 30 miles :) cobra is very nice.....hats off to mazda for letting ppl get so frustrated they get rid of their car

Ah, but these are all "characteristics of the MSP!" ;)
You should be so honered to have driven one...since they are so rare....and were only supposed to come out in 3 colours........oh....but this what I was told and let's see....you can still purchase the Spicy Orange.....and another 2 more colours are coming? :wtf:

I guess we are just lucky cuz we don't have any of these problems with the MSP....I love that car and wouldn't THINK of trading it for another car in it's price range......even with the probs you wouldn't get near this much car for the price.......your options are an SE-R and Civic SI, neither of which I'd choose over the MSP. If you're wondering why I didn't list the Focus or the SRT-4...well, yeah....exactly......American cars are not a consideration at any price.

its a first year car, and its the first time Mazda has ever done something like it has to our cars, if i recall right the regular Ford Fuckus has had 9 RECALLS, and it it still gets praised as being a good car, first year cars always have some problems and its usually a general rule of thumb so everyone should have expected a few problems, if ur gonna keeping crying like a bitch then go buy a american car and then i ask u to take a drive on a long highway or interstate and compare how many americans u see left on the side of the road to jap cars

i agree those cars are nowhere near the MSP the msp is a great car for its price but the cobra is a sweet ass ride and dosnt handle to much worse than the msp and i'm an avid driver in the turns:)-plus if you look around you can get an early 00' cobra for 19k-22k with low miles in great shape...and i've never seen a cobra on the side of the road

Whoah..Dude your missing my point.
Yes, it may be a first year car as a MazdaSpeed, but the MP3 was first. You think that perhaps Mazda would of gotten the rear bushing problem fixed before releasing another problem car.
Sure, there will be problems, but a STALLING car at highway speeds is unacceptable. For those of you not experiencing this, great...hope you never have a problem. But the response from my Dealership as well as the response from Mazda Canada has turned me away from ever purchasing another Mazda.
And judging from members on this board as well as past MP3 bitch complaints, it can literally take years for problems to be fixed.
I've owned numerous cars...none of which compair to the problems I have with my Speed.
I still like the car, don't get me wrong. It's fun to drive, and turns heads wherever I go. Perhaps this is the only reason I still own it.......

I got my start in DSM's (Talon, Eclipse, Laser). I have been building them for years now and I actually have a 487 whp Talon sitting outside :). I have had more DSM's than any other car- at least 25 DSM's..

i really can't believe all these complaints and problems i hear about the MSP.. i haven'te experienced any noises is struts, any stalling.. nothing.. the onlu complaint i have is the damn security system.. that thing goes off for everything. i need to go adjust it. the fireworks last night set it off twice too.
and 2k3- you already have over 10000 miles on yours!! damn. where have you been driving? i'm on vacation and i still only have 2400... had mine for almost 3 months.. of course, school is out too. that saves a lot of daily mileage..

granted, but pretty much everything is still made in Japan. Jaguar, Astin Martin, Land Rover and Volvo's are in the same boat, and I hardly consider any of those American cars.

Agreed- a lot of people are blowing it out of proportion :(. Suspension clunk- it has urethane bushings in it- it is a trade off- put rubber bushings in it, no more clunk- but handling will suffer.. Hesitation is a big issue, but it is able to be worked around simply and inexpensively. Granted, Mazda should take care of it, but for the ease of improving it yourself- I wouldn't consider it a reason to lose $$$ trading the car in. Hell, it is only a $20K Protege- you get a LOT of stuff for $20K in the MSP though that makes it a great value even with it's quirks.. I don't think it should require tuning to run right, but maybe because I am a tuner, it doesn't bother me much. The car is a good deal for what you get. Not that it is chump change by any means, but $20k isn't really a lot for a car these days :(.

twiktsi--- i totally agree with you.. it seems like ppl are freaking out over little things when they're not paying attention to the positives anymore.. it seems like most of the threads on this forum are about bad things anymore. i thought this was suppossed to be a place where we all talk about our cars we love.. to me it just seems like a gigantic complaint forum. i love my orange MSP.. i wouldn't think of trading it in. yes there are a couple of minor things i don't like, but with every good you have bad. i accept that and drive on.. if you other ppl can't, i'm sorry and i hope you get something that makes you happy.
