Nice! How'd you do that? Is it powdercoat, engine paint, or what?
Looks pretty spiff, tho...I've wanted to powdercoat the cover since I bought the car but I'm not sure of 2 things
1) cost
2) color
The first is no prob...the second is the real brick wall....

YellowSpeed17,
What did you use to paint it? Was it a DIY project? Or did you get it professionally done?.
The paint seems to be a bit off from the pictures. Is there any metallic flakes in there?

I used Dupli-Color Engine Enamel. And I did it myself. Theres only four nuts holding it on and I just masked the Mazdaspeed emblem with masking tape. Sprayed 5 coats at about noon and let it dry overnight. I'm going on vacation and not taking my speed so i'll take more pics when I get back.

hehe...funny. I have one of Forge's competitor's DVs on my car (stratmosphere). It's easier to adjust.
BTW, how'd you paint that cover? By how I mean, what type of paint did you use? I would assume it'll just heat up and bubble pretty quick, if it's not meant to stand the heat.

It's called Duplicolor Metalcast & you can get it at Walmart. You buy a silver & then the color you want. By spraying red (in my case) over silver, it gives it an anodized look & it is heat resistant to 500 degrees. It's designed for painting calipers, but I'm doing mine black. I saw some pics of red covers on here & thought I'd do it myself. Together, the 2 cans are like $7.50. For anyone who wants to do theirs, you need to debadge the Mazdaspeed badge just like you would any other badge. Tape that area off, paint the cover, take the tape off, & them reattach the badge with 3m VHB tape.

Lemme know how that holds up. Our bays get hella hot after hard runs, so I'm curious as to how it'll hold up.

Anyone from Jersey that isn't already signed up for the meet on Oct. 25th, let me know ASAP. The thread is in the "Car Meets" forum.
