Hey guys,

I am now a Mazdaspeed owner! I got a 2003.5 Yellow Mazdaspeed tonight.

I saw the $1500 rebate, called my dealer and the rest is history. I got a decent deal with good financing and am now loving the speed.

I traded in a protege5 so I am no newbie to the forums, but I am a total newb to turbo engines and the Mazdaspeed.

Any quick advice. Keeping it under 4,000 RPMs during the break-in but it's gonna be hard to keep that up for 1000 miles.

Looking forward to all the fun I am gonna have with it.

Yeah, gotta change my sig. But I did buy it at Almaden. It had 2 miles on the odo. I didn't test drive that one, I drove a black 03 that had like 250 miles on it. I don't intend on bringing it back there, I know there are other dealers in the area that can probably do a better job for less.

They treated me okay, and that's where I bought my 5 too.

ahh i see. yeah they have a black with near 300 miles on it, and about 6 paint scratches/scrapes.

also the orange has like 200 miles on it. good you could find a good one there.

i got mine at menlo though, yeah putnam has overstock of alot of them too.

where are you at?

I live in Morgan Hill and work in Sunnyvale, so I'll be racking up at least 70 miles on it daily. Should be out of the break-in period pretty quick.

yeah, wouldn't have bought one with that many miles on it. That's why I made a point of taking the black one for a test drive. Wasn't gonna stress the nice brand new one in yellow that was in perfect shape.

Congrads. No need to break it in. They already come broken in from factory.

breakin is 600 miles and dont keep it below 4,000 it suggest u vary ur speed, and dont stay at hte same speed for very long. basicaly u wanna go through the ranges of speed and rpm during ur breakin.

Have fun with it two with it a little just don't run it to hard during breakin. if you have a kinda long drive to work like me, were speed limit is 55 drive like 45 for a bit then drive 65 then drive 55 then drive 75 just vary ur speed and speeding up and slowing down toy with it get to know the car. just don't run it extremely hard.

This is what i did and i have had no problems now going on 4k.

and come on u guys are lame.. geezus.. why would u test drive one and buy a different one. that's just stupid. thats like saying oh i'll drive this car and then soemone else goes and buys that test drove car.. gah gotta hate that. I test drove the one off the showroom floor cuz they couldn't find the keys for any of the others and he asked me if i wanted the one i test drove i said yeah. he said why? i said well would u wanna buy a car someone else had driven? he said oh good point. BE CONSIDERATE PPL.. geez.

Ryans "break-in" is real good! Change your oil at 500 miles too (all of the manufacturing lubes and sealants should be purged). After this first oil change, you can go to the 3000 mile oil change. This engine really beats up the oil!!! Use 10W-30. Also, do a search for "Take care of your turbo" (I wrote it). Don't worry bout the flamin' that went on later in the forum, they got off topic!!! Enjoy your MSP.
Do a search for "Bone Stock", there are pics of my car.

Yeah i didn't change my oil at 500 i wish i had now. oh well. the oil was actually pretty clean when i drained it at around 3,000 miles.. i forgot to put the washer on so im leaking a lil oil im gonna fix it this weekend. its not alot of oil its like 3 or 4 drops everyday if that. not enuf to worry me but im still gonna fix it asap.

ryan, if you would actually read the post, the black one has 300 miles on it already. it wouldnt matter if he put 2 more. stop bitching and read.

Thanks for the quick advice.

I have been running Mobil 1 5W-30 in my protege5. Is there any reason that I wouldn't want to run that in the Mazdaspeed?

Can't we all just get along? he he.

Anyways, I wouldn't have driven a different if it didn't already have almost 300 miles on it. Otherwise i wouldn't have minded driving the new one.

5W-30 is very thin oil. The turbo is hard on oil and the 10W-30 will stand up longer. Still change at 3k or 3.5k miles.

PS: Is the Mobile 1 synthetic?
