Before going to the meet in Maryland yesterday I decide to fully clean and wax the ole sled.
Well after going inside and coming back out I restarted the car only to hear a poping noise, and the radio died.
Checked the fuse and sure enough it was blown, ok no biggie I'll just pick one up on the way there.

Then tried to put the car into reverse...and no go. The shifter wasn't disengaging at all. Strange..
So I poped the over ride button and put it in drive.
Hmmm why does the car feel like it has no power.
Drove alittle bit and got it up to 50, which took a LONG time. Now the car was behalfing normally. Then decided to put it into shift mode.
Eh? The car was in third which is fine for that speed but when slowing down and stopping it didn't go out of third.
Yep that radio fuse knocks the automatic into third and keeps it there.

So pulled over and took the AC fuse and put it into the Radio fuse opening. All is fine!

Strange huh, that the radio fuse is related to the shifter.
Gah crazy Mazda's :D

And found what caused it some of the power wire got scrapped off and made contact with the chassis thus blowing the fuse.
Of which those little fuses are a pain to find in my area. Went to pep boys, several gas stations and Target. All of them were sold out or only had the bigger sized fuses.

I have a interesting thing like that too.

A while back when I was putting my altezzas on I pinched one of the wires, which exposed the metal a little bit and it grounded to the screw terminal on the tail which I pinched it with. well I didn't know that until later. So here is what happened...

I go to put the car in reverse (the wire I pinched goes to the reverse light). And the reverse lights turn on then go out then all of my gauges go dead, but the car is still running. So I turn it off then back on. Still no guages or reverse lights. What had happened was that it blew the fuse that controls the gauges. I put a new mini fuse in (without knowing of the wire problem). Turned the car on, put it in reverse, guages went dead reverse lights turned off. So i had to take the lights apart and found the barely exposed wire, electrical taped it and now it works fine.

Seems like weird things are interlinked in our cars. Oh well, I love my P5.

Yep love my P5 still just a strange connection between the radio and the tranny.
But man! starting in third is almost impossible on some of the hills around here.

I had the same thing happen to me after replacing the stock stereo. I have yet to find the problem wire, but it sucks when this happens at speed. This weekend I plan to run dedicated power wires for the stereo.

Reviving a two year old thread as your first post? Bold move my son.

Automatics suck anyway. I wanna rig an automatic car to blow up but only after it reaches top gear. 50 mph fireball, giggity.

Yea, I don't care for the Auto...but I had a new baby when I got the car. He is the last kid I'll have, and same goes for the AT.

I got the auto for my (at the time) pregnant wife. Who decided it was too small. Now it's all mine. At least it has "Sport-Mode".
Now back on topic!
