Announcing the first annual Hot as Hell (tm) BBQ and meet in Casa Grande, AZ
When: Saturday July 12, 2003, 6:00pm
Where: Casa Grande, AZ - easily reached from Phoenix and Tucson areas.
What: BBQ and car meet
All Mazda owners are welcome to come out for a night of food, cars, good times, and a scenic night drive through the back mountain roads of the Casa Grande area. Come enjoy the cool desert evening as you won't experience it in Phoenix or Tucson.
We'll start at 6:00pm with a BBQ dinner, hang out and check out the rides, and then caravan for a night drive.
I live on a nice sized property out in the middle of nowhere that will accomodate numerous cars, so come one, come all Mazdas. I live about this far from the following areas:
Tempe: 30min
Phoenix/West Valley: 50min
Gilbert/Mesa/Chandler: 30-45min
Tucson: 60min
If you plan to attend, please RSVP by July 10th to aguerriero@act.com with:
Your name.
How many people you'll have.

since we will have a night run in the mountains, should we bring two way radios?
andy_guerriero
06-27-2003, 03:13 PM
That's not a bad idea, now that I think about it. I know I have two - maybe if anyone else has some, we can combine those with cel phones to make sure no one gets lost and eaten by coyotes.

the bbq won't be till 6:00pm. then the night run won't be till it's dusk or dark. so you'll have plenty of time to move. or just come out for the run to take a break from the move. besides, there's always sunday. come on out! i need to meet my fellow arizona mazda/protege owners.

I'm debating posting an invite on other Mazda forums.

what the hell the more the merry right, besides this is a part of the AzMA right which means "Arizona Mazda Affiliate" right. but of course its ur property Andy so its ur call, if u need anyhelp let me know i'll do my best to help. oh and i'm bringin a friend in my car and then there will be another following in his own mazda, i sent u the rsvp w/all the info about it. again also for the side dish things let me know whats needed and i'll bring based off of that. aite, lates

i want an AzMA sticker if there are any available. that would be cool.
4DRMP5ATR
06-28-2003, 07:34 PM
if i could get the design of the stickers, again or have someone design it again, and throw out some color options, i could get some produced, and bring them to the meet, only thing is i need the design done ASAP, so if anyone could get ahold of SMP3000, i know hes a comp guru, we might be able to get something going, also the sizes too, like how big people would want them, if u ask me i think maybe a rear 1/4 window sticker would work nothing to big but at least there to advertise what we are
tonkabui
06-28-2003, 08:50 PM
how about this? it's not the original logo, so yeah, it doesn't matter to me if it gets printed or not.

i have a huuuge favor to ask. if anyone has done the fog light mod where it can come on with the parking lights can help walk me through the process at the bbq, that would be sweet. tia.

andy_guerriero,
Thank you for setting this up. I have an autocross in Sierra Vista on the 13th so I will have to pass, this time. You have fun and I will think about you.
My children and I are competing in the street tire class. The second place Mustang is only 67 points behind me,close enough that he could catch me if I don't run. He could catch me anyway but I am not going to give it to him. If you are interested here is our club's URL:

tonka, the stickers are cool, but they are a little to excessive for my taste i'm not a big sticker person, i dont know if u want that as a banner for ur windshield or what, so let me know. dont get me wrong its a great design just to much for me. Also what i need u to do is put them in a format that i can copy it from an email in a gif, or jpeg format, so if u could email it to me, let me know how big u want it and for where on ur car u want it. then i will get it produced for u and let u know the $$$ at the meet for ya
tonkabui
06-29-2003, 08:04 PM
justin, i was thinking something along the lines of 4"x1.5". i was gonna stick it on the rear quarter panel window on the inside. if i can get the design on a white sticker, that would be most excellent. i'll email you with exactly what i want. can you PM me where i can get in touch with you? thanks a million!

I like that sticker design - I would go for it in black.
Still holding at six cars - I hope we can get more. I sent out a bunch of PMs and about half of them have been read, but very few responses. Perhaps we'll get more as it gets closer to the date.
I'm probably going to tap the RX-7 crowd to get some more variety of cars down.
tonkabui
06-30-2003, 10:58 AM
andy,
when you say black, do you mean the black with the white writing, or the white with the black writing?
i also made this one that i'll be putting on my car. hopefully, justin will be able to get just the white sections on a sticker so i can cut it out and stick it on the inside of my window. well, here it is:

I meant the black with white writing. My interior is black so that seems to match best. I was thinking also it might look good to put in small writing under the logo "Arizona Mazda Association".
tonkabui
06-30-2003, 11:07 AM
ok, i'll make the changes and send it over to justin. he quoted me a price of between $10-20 as a very rough ballpark in terms of cost. i'll be in touch.

what's up guys? Just got back from a weekend in Carlsbad, CA. Sucks to be back in AZ let me tell ya! The roads are so F'in sweet there! The beach, the green scenery, the weather. Didn't see one MP5, MP3 or MSP there... kinda weird.
I can't be 100% sure I can make it. I'll have to see in the coming week where I'm at. Andy, I'll email you later to let you know.

06-30-2003, 10:16 PM
ok tonka so i'm confused, you just want the white part only, no black background, no mazda symbol, i thought u wanted the whole deal, if its just the white part that will be very easy, and alot more cheaper, but if u want it with all that black background, and mazda symbol, thats whats gonna make it pricy, cause its viynl or how ever us spell that word. and plus i gotta figure out how to get it to print on the sticky side with colors and stuff...... but anyways i'm workin on it, and andy definately hit up the rx7 crowd, i'm sure they would be interested for sure, i mean hell its mazda right and thats what we are all about, azeli it would be great if u could make it i dont believe we've meet so, i would be glad to meet u and ur ride. well i'm out like a bat outta hell (haha) oh yeah there will be a total of 4 people comming with me to the meet, lates

07-02-2003, 02:39 AM
eek!
4drmp5atr,
i want the mazda symbol in the grayish black it's in, then i want the white part. the black background i used only as a background. i want just the white part and the mazda symbol. if i did it where it was on a white background, we wouldn't be able to see the white part. i was hoping to be able to just stick the white part and the mazda symbol on the window as a cutout with no background. let me see if i can find any pics. i'll email them to you.

Sorry guys & Gals I have to work on Saturdays so I won't be able to attend this one.
tonkabui,
This is for you.
BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS: I WILL NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR ACTIONS, EVEN IF RESULTING IN INJURY TO YOU OR TO YOUR CAR, SO PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND THESE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY AND MAKE SURE YOU UNDERSTAND THEM CLEARLY BEFORE BEGINNING, PLEASE I WOULD HATE FOR YOU TO MESS UP YOUR EXPENSIVE TOY! ALSO GET THE CORRECT PARTS/TOOLS, BELOW IS A SUPPLY/TOOL LIST:
1)Small, very small flat blade screw driver, or equivalent
2)wire cutters/crimpers
3)electrical tape
4)female and male spade connectors 16-18 gauge size, small/narrow and big/wide ones. check your parts stores. you will see what size later in the instructions when you remove the wires from the harnesses.
5)approx 15-20" of wire preferably 16-18 gauge
6)Possibly a pair of needle nose pliers for removing/installing the wires in the harnesses.
7)approx. 45-60 minutes for a good clean install.(trust me it pays off in the end with the look of the lights and the much better quality job, rather than cutting up the wires of your baby)
ok guys i have done this mod and i will tell you how to do it cleanly and easily and can be reversed in a matter of minutes. All you are doing is replacing the turn on wire for the relay, instead of getting power from your headlight power you are getting it from the illumination power for the gauge lights (im assuming) although that doesn't matter as long as the relay gets the voltage to open and turn on the lights.
Ok with that said, here is how i did it:
1)Open the drivers door and remove the panel on the side of the dash, it helps to reach under the dash and push out on it, on the part closer to the driver (not the door hinge side, it slips in the groove).
2)Locate the relay-its under the dash by the clutch pedal, there should be like 3-4 small black boxes, locate the one for the fog lights by turning them on and off while listening closely/and or feeling. I had to listen and feel as all the relays look the same.(Small black boxes for those who don't know).
3)locate the back of the fog light switch.
4)start by removing the harness from the relay and the fog light switch.
5)on the harness removed from the relay start by using a very small flat head (blade) screwdriver or equivalent, remove the (Red, larger wire) wire, by pushing on the small metal clip inside the harness, look closely and you will see how it is held in there, its not as difficult as it sounds, i promise.
6) Using the same procedure as above (5) do the same in removing the (green/black) wire from the harness that plugs into the fog light switch.
7)once both are removed this is where the fun begins, start with a short piece of wire, approx 8-10" long. On one end crimp on a female spade connector, this will be inserted back into the harness going to the relay, where you removed the wire in step 5.
8) tape the end of the wire removed in step 5 so no shorting occurs , also tape it to another loom under the dash so it doesn't dangle.
9)ok pay attention here, on the other end of the wire in step 7 attach another short piece of wire approx 5" long by twisting them together, crimp them together with another female spade connecter.
10) on the other end of the short wire in step 9, crimp on a male spade connector.
11)ok now the connecting wire should be complete, take the remaining female connecter and put it back in the fog light harness where you removed the one in step 6(green/black wire).
12) this should leave you with the wire you removed from the fog light switch in step 6 (green/black) and a short piece of wire with a male spade on it (created in step 9).
13) the wire removed from the fog light switch in step 6 should have a female spade on it, take the male spade on the short wire that you created in step 9, and plug it into the female spade removed from the fog light switch in step 6, (the green/black) wire.
14) tape all remaining exposed connections (should only have one) and voila you are done, the fogs come on with the parking lights and with the headlights and the fog switch is still functional.
Go to my wep page and check out the last picture to see what it looks like.

Anyone able to get those stickers done? I was hoping to stick one on the back windshield and show my Mazda pride :D
4DRMP5ATR
07-12-2003, 04:19 PM
hey zero, i didnt know who wanted stickers or not i knew tonkabui wanted some, but the prob is for gettin them produced i need to pay a $25 copyright, and setup fee, and then its $5 a sticker after that, so if we had enough people to buy the stickers and pitch in for the $25 then it would be alot cheaper per erson for the stickers
Ya Justin, you're right. Between you and me, it would come to like $17 but we could get that dropped to $7 or $8 with a few more people. Are they windshield decals or smaller paste em's on the inside or outside of the rear window?
Anyone else want in on the decals??? The more people in, the cheaper they are. Then we'd know who's who around town and from what I saw they look pretty sweet. :)

I love Arizona!
From 1973-1980, I worked at Davis Monthan AFB. I worked on the Titan II ICBM missles (18).
One day; my wife and I want to live there. My parents live in Avondale.
Andy: You know where Helena Chemical Co. is in Casa Grande (1107 N. VIP Blvd)? I have worked at their corporate office for 14 years. That is one of our 250+ locations throughout the country. (AG-Chem)

Actually I live in N. Peoria, Bell/91st Ave. The 101 you'd see me on would be the Agua Fria Fwy driving to Goodyear to work. (Or maybe in N. Scottsdale hitting the bars occasionally lol). Speaking of the 101, the Coyotes Stadium looks just about done and they finally broke ground on the Cards stadium. Can't wait till we get the Super Bowl again. I hear we may get the 2008 game...

I will be selling the P5 and my house that I just bought 4 months ago. If you see anything on my list of mods you want to make an offer on let me know. I'm going to bring her back to stock before putting the P5 up for sale.... <b>BTW, I'd prefer to keep it in AZ first and then ship to other members</b>.

Nothing is in stone yet....But I am polishing the resume and looking for nest egg to prepare myself. Most likely I'll be okay for a least another month or two. I'll keep you guys all up to date as I know.

Eli,
That sucks big time.
Most of the good jobs are going to be in the valley but I'd be more than happy to have you guys living in northern Az.
If you need to start looking for a new job email me and I'll let you know what's available up north.
I was originally going to update y'all on the Watson Lake car show. Go back to page 4 and click on my link.
I'm getting the urge for another northern Az mountain drive.
Watcha-tink?
If you don't what I'm talking about then go to my www page or Eli's www and see page 2.
Later Y'all
&
Gook luck Eli.

hey fellas, i'm back for now. keep me posted on any upcoming events.
i was just in flagstaff/sedona/cottonwood/jerome this past weekend. we moved my friend into his new place in flag, then we went to visit some family in cottonwood and went to sedona then to jerome for the day.
it was flipping hot all over the state. it seems to have cooled down quite a bit lately. the temperature is only supposed to get to 95 today in tucson... but we'll see... these darned monsoons are never predictable.
oh, at 7000 feet, my car was REALLY sluggish. i couldn't keep up with the suburban in our caravan. i think i need turbo power.

Justin,
Woo-who! I'll add another one to the list.
Could you do me a favor?
Can you reply to the other thread. This way it is easier to keep track of who all is coming on the day of the event.
I have advertisements on a couple of different Mazda web pages.
This run AZELI73 & I hope to get more than 5 cars.
If you want to print off what Andy calls my tour guide page on the other thread and post it around, go for it.
Like I said this open for all Mazdas. Including the Ugly 3, I mean the Mazda 3 if it was out.
Drive with pride .... Protege 5
Later,
Bill
