Slug, is this true?

you can sign up at the door.....

Can I just show up and sign in?
If space is available and time permits, yes, you can check in at the gate. However, since this has already shown to be a popular and very well-attended event, you'll be much happier if you pre-register. Space is definitely limited so don't miss out. Sign up now! Today. Or sooner.

Ok...let's take a list:

If you put a 1 in your post you are just going up saturday for the RiU

If you put a 2 in your post you're just going to the meet on Sunday

If you put a 3 in your post you're going both Sat and Sun, to attend each event seperately

If you put a 4 in your post you're going just Sun to try to hit both

I want to see what's up before I try going to both, because it's a long hike for me, unless I can camp out at somebody's house between days...(hint hint...anyone?) I imagine if 1sty is gonna go both days, that would be helpful too(since he's got farther to go than me!)

Hey 1sty...Saturday is the Rev it up event (well..it's both days). Then the meet on sunday is supposedly taking place in the parking lot of Foxboro, and then continuing from there...Sluggo knows what's up. I'm still undecided...I want to say #3, but it's just so far to drive, unless I can get a super-cheapo hotel room or sleep in somebody's driveway! :D

Hey everyone.. just checked out the Mazda RiU site. Looks like a pretty awesome deal for $39. I'm not sure I'm gonna do that, but I know I'll be there for the Sunday meeting. Does anyone know what time to meet there? How long is the meeting? Will it be a sin if my buddy parks his Cobra Mustang next to me?? :D

slug420
06-23-2003, 06:07 PM
hey guys, im REAL glad to hear so many of you are down for this, bring the cobra, ill smoke him with my monster 150whp.......lol!

We will iron out some details like specific times this week and I'll post it here and in my sig. Basically we are gonna meet up and check out the rides, but since its a parking lot and not a state park like our last meet we cant really BBQ so we will probably go get some food somewhere, and I wouldnt mind cruisin Rte 1 or somethin with some MP3s and P5s and whatnot. I think we are gonna kinda wing it.

more details are forthcoming, keep rallying the troops! :)

We are trying to coordinate a cruise up to the meet together from CT/RI so.........

PM me where you are coming from for this meet and I will be sure to let you know when we have a route planned out.

And if you can, plz click the link in my sig and add your name to the list of ppl coming just so we have a rough idea

Not to bust anyone's bubble...but there is absolutely nothing up and down Rte 1 in Foxborough.... well there is a State Police barracks about 2 miles south of it (warning for you RI drivers).

There is a state park, but the parking lot only holds about 8-12 cars and its packed with Mtn Bikers on the weekends so its not exactly car-meet material.

There is, however, a secret parking lot right off Rte 1 (Id say 10 minutes from the stadium). A narrow partially paved road takes you to the top of the park where there is an AT&T tower and storage building. The building is vacant as far as I know, but there is a decent sized parking lot around the back.

Back when I was in highschool my friends and I used to uhh, hang out there. (aka Dazed & Confused moontower) But it is a public road, it might even have a name. I see mtn bikers park there on ocassion because there are several fire roads that are lots of fun (until you have to ride back to the top to get to your car).

If that sounds interesting I'll go scope it out this weekend...but here are some things to ponder...

1) There will be no passers by (unless they are on mountain bikes)
2) We would be on semi-private property but no one will ever be there to kick us off (the land the tower is on is not part of the forest but is not blocked by any gates because it provides access to several fire roads on different corners of the lot)
3) We could BBQ as long as someone brings a grill (which is the same case for the stadium parking lot...everyone grills in the lot before games so why not?)
4) It will be a slow drive in for those of you with lowered suspensions as part of the road has not been paved for quite some time. (again I will scope out the condition of the road this weekend to make sure it is still drivable)
5) You could hike/bike before and after the meet.

slug420
06-24-2003, 12:18 PM
I think we are gonna stick with the parking lot at RIU for now, but if we all get there and decide it blows we can follow your lead elsewhere

let's see if we can clear up any confusion...the rev it up is both sat. and sun. some of us are planning on attending the sat. rev it up. and also going to gillette on sun. just to hang out and meet up with other pro owners. hopefully this helps. joe

hey guys

Our summer meet is coming up, and its sounding like we will have great turnout!

The meet will be on Sunday July 13, at 1:00PM in the parking lot at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro, MA.

On that Saturday and Sunday Mazda Rev-It-Up will be at Gillette Stadium and while you can go to the event if you like, our meet is merely happening at the same place at the same time and does not involve admission to or participation in the events.

The thread where this meet is being organized and whatnot can be found:
http://www.protegeclub.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=25198&pagenumber=3

For directions to the event:
http://www.mazdarevitup.com/Locations/f_default.asp

Tenative plans are as follows:
We will meet in the parking lot at 1:00PM and hang out and check out the rides. No formal planning has gone into food so the agenda at this point is to cruise to some area restaurant together and get some eats whenever we get hungry. We are totally open for ideas right now and might end up going on a cruise around the area together. (Im dyin to see a big pack of proteges rollin down the street).

All NYC/SouthernCT/WesternCT members are planning on cruising up 95 until they get to Providence where we will be meeting with RI members and North/East CT members. From there we will all ride together to Foxboro. The time of meeting in providence has not been decided upon but the location has and directions will follow.

keep spreading the word!

-chris

P.S. There is a member from NJ willing to ride up for the meet is more NY/NJ/DC people want to cruise up with him, check the protegeclub.com "Northeast" forum for details.

Check mine or slug's sigs..if you could add your name to the list that would definetly help us out organizing the meet..thus far..northern/western/central CT guys are meeting up on exit 69 of I-84. As for you southern guys, your taking I-95 into providence where we all meet at slug420's parking lot (PM him for details) the meet is on for 1 and I hope this will be a great turnout!..Lets try and get some meet times set so we can make sure we have enough time to roll through providence and get to foxboro by 1..gotta add time for traffic..not to mention state troopers...any of you guys have 2 ways? might help..

If any one is interested, there is a huge Antique/Classic car meet in Dedham, MA that same day (July 13th). Last year they completely filled the 15-acre grounds of the Endicott Estage. Antiques, Hot Rods, Classics, you name it. There were like four rows of 70's muscle cars, a whole section dedicated to 'Mini's and a handfull of exotic sports cars as well.

Directions can be found here:
http://www.endicottestate.com/index.htm
and the official site is here (with pictures from last year):
http://www.bsaac.com/

Anyone coming down 128 from the North could easily stop by in the morning. And it would be worth driving the extra 15 minutes from Foxboro if you're coming from the south. Its a couple bucks to get in, but its well worth it. If it's a nice day

Vaarky

chuyler1: Good call on the Antique/Classic car show! I love those, and it'd be great for our group to see their group as... well.. as a group! We should plan to do that after we all meet and hang out at the Stadium for a while.

ALSO... anybody looking for a place to park/sleep for the night is more than welcome to pull alongside the curb at my place. I live about 5-10 minutes from the stadium, which means you guys coming from a long distance won't have to get up early to make it here by 1pm.

<B>Disclaimer:</B> The Sharon Police lieutennant lives across the street from me. Anything illegal is your own responsibility and therefore HIGHLY unadvisable. Sorry but I want to say it here first. I'm a nice guy... really!! :D

Hey guys, its update time!

The Meet:
Sunday July 13 at 1:00 PM at Gillette Stadium in Foxboro MA (RIU)

The Plan:
Since im not from foxboro and am not familiar with the facilities and since we have not made organized efforts ahead of time as far as food goes, plan on there being no cookout. On that note however, since we are going to totally plan our activities by ear and its up to a popular vote what we do, feel free to bring a grill and some dogs if you want to. An on THAT note, we will be wingin it and putting any activity to a popular vote so driving to a classic car show, just cruising to some area hot spot, photoshoots at 982 locations, getting eats at some restaurant - we are open to anything.

The Convoy:
From points north - you're on your own. I would go to the gillette stadium website or mazda rev it up website for directions to the event.

People from CT- If you are going up 95 and meeting us in providence, please shoot me an email or a PM just so I know how many ppl to expect meeting in providence or if we even have to meet there at all. Plan on meeting in providence at the location discussed earlier (exit 24, branch ave, off 95 north) at 12:00 Noon. We will then leave the parking lot in providence at 12:30 (gives us a buffer in case anyone is running late) and cruise up to foxboro.

If you are planning on meeting at exit 69 then be there, exit 69 off 84 East in CT. When you get off the exit take a right and you will see a commuter lot about 20 feet down the road on your left, cant miss it. We are meeting there at 10:00 AM and leaving there by 10:30 AM (once again a little buffer). Now to make things a little more fun, im gonna take us on a little bit of a scenic route (some twisties etc) on our way to providence, where we should arrive around noon. and from there its off to foxboro and into the record books.........or something :)

Bring 2 way radios if you have them, and please e-mail me chrisdecarli@hotmail.com or PM me or AIM me if you have any questions/comments/dirty jokes/etc............this is my first time organizing anything at all anywhere ever so lemme know if im forgetting something.

Hope to see you all there!

BOOYA

i'm not sure how many of you guys have been to gillette before, but it's a pretty big parking area. how about we meet at this location, at 1:00 and then go from there?? Parking area "P2" from Route 1. Follow signs for "General Stadium Parking."
this way we have a set meeting spot that everyone can find? just a suggestion, joe.

Do NOT get off at Exit 8 on 95! Unless you know the area you will never find your way to the stadium. I know exit 8 says "Foxboro" and Exit 9 says "Walpole" but Exit 9 is the best way to go.

If you're coming from the south on 95 its a little tricky getting to Rt1 south. When you get off at exit 9, get into the left lane. Right after the bridge make a lefthand 'U-Turn' and you'll be on Rt1 South. If you miss it, make a U-Turn at the next light.

Stadium Parking attendants will most likely shuffle everyone to a specific spot. Its up to the first people who get there to tell them you want to park away from everyone else. They won't be happy with this. If there aren't attendants, then there is probably only one lot open. If thats the case just go to the far end of it. State Troopers are all over Rte 1 so take it easy. There is a barracks about 1-2 miles south of the stadium and they always help out with stadium events.

Anyway, whoever is going both days should scope the place out and see how they have things setup on Saturday...then post here (if they can) where the best place to meet is. Since RIU will be using part of the parking lot for a track, I don't know how they are going to do things.

chuyler1
07-10-2003, 06:02 PM
The Explorer/Ranger lot is the largest area without obstructions....I would predict that RIU would setup here except that the main entrance is right there (where you will most likely be turning in). If they use that lot for general parking, then their second option would be either the Taurus or Mustang lots because they are highly visible from the road.

In anycase, just follow signs and parking attendants and we'll find each other...what is the expected turn out for this thing? I doubt they will have to open more than one or two parking lots for visitors.

I can really confuse you and tell you the fastest way is to get off 95 North at 495 North (exit 6 I think), go up one exit and get off at Rte 1 North.

SpicyMchaggis
07-10-2003, 10:30 PM
yea..maybe you should meet us in providence..you seem to know the area layout a hell of lot better than us..hope all you guys from MA/ME/NH know where your going!..this is going to be sweet

servoeyes
07-11-2003, 12:17 AM
How cool would it be for Mazda PR to have like 20-30 proteges roll into the lot at an RIU? Tell me that wouldn't be a moment they wish they could share with "enthusiasts" to show what we've got: a sense of community and self-expression. Sweet...

Also...I just bought a couple Motorola 2-ways...have to use damn FRS since I don't have a GMRS license. They were nice: ~60$ at walmart.

As for the guys from points north...they have it wicked easy. I went to school in worcester; when we went to see Tool at the Tweeter we just took 495 down...Ugh...I CAN'T WAIT 'TIL SUNDAY!! weeeeeeeee!

Ok fellas, we all may or may not remember when NRRFrogmanP5, a fellow forum writer, got into an accident with his yellow P5. Some unlicensed 17 year old slammed into him and totaled his P5. Well I got in touch with NRRFrogmanP5 via AIM shortly after the accident and told him that, one way or another, I'd find a way to commemorate his P5 at the upcoming Foxboro meet.

Here's my idea, I want to run it by everyone...

For those of us who aren't familiar with a 21-Gun salute, it's a military ritual performed on Memorial Day (and perhaps other times) to remember fallen war veterans. 21 men, all in uniform, simultaneously shoot 3 blank rounds into the sky.

My idea? a 21-Hood salute. That's right! Here's how it'd work...

First we line up 21 Proteges, MSPs, P5s, whatever... then

- Release hood latch from inside your car (i.e., Ready)
- Get out of your car, and raise the hood up (i.e., Aim)
- Drop the hood closed (i.e., Fire)

We do this three times, under the direction of some appointed leader (the guy who says READY, AIM, FIRE!).

I'm planning to video this whole thing, but only if you guys think it's a good idea. Lemme know!

I think the next meet should be in Northeast CT...

I am looking at something like Labor Day weekend.

There is a fair in town - the Woodstock Fair, and my friend owns a lot across the street so we park cars there during the fair. If we wanted the meet to be on the Friday then I could park people for the meet for like a buck off - but most people probably dont have that friday off. The rest of the weekend I will probably do like a buck off for MP3s and MSPs but my friend doesnt want any kind of a meet there on the other days (it runs fri-mon) since the cars there for the meet will be there longer and thus he wont be able to pack as many cars in over the course of the day.

So anyhow, if Friday of labor day weekend in northeast CT could work for you guys, then lets do that up. You can have the meet during day time, bring a grill or something for in the parking lot, and when the fair opens for the weekend at like 2PM there's that to keep everyone busy.

BUT since most people probably wont be able to do Friday this whole labor day weekend at the woodstock fair thing probably wont work out.

at any rate, I suggest our next meet being in the woodstock area. For this past meet we had 9 or so cars drive to meet at exit 69, and then we all hauled it -some of them who had already driven over an hour- up to foxboro to meet up with what I believe was less than 9 ppl from the whole MA/RI area. Northeastern CT has some nice windy roads, lots of parks and country spaces to BBQ or whatever, and is pretty darn close to being halfway between boston and nyc and hartford and providence and all that jazz

So lets hear some more input for the next meet....the turnout seems to be improving each time :)

Great meeting you guys...I had the Orange MSP without the custom plates. No pics here (no camera), but had a great time.

As far as the next meet, Chris....you lazy bastard...."yeah, lets hold a meet in my back yard." What about everyone who has to drive there....to Woodstock, CT.....where the fuck is that???? That would take me like 10 minutes to get there....if you think i'm gonna drive that far for a meet....well, I would.

Sounds good to me, but cruising would be a bit hard during the Woodstock Fair...crazy cars everywhere.

Let me know what your thinking and I'll probably be able to help organize it.

Hey sorry I missed the meet...my chalk time was 1 pm and raced at 4 and 5pm. I was there all day...got there at 9 am...couldnt wait to hang out at the event!!!!!!! I drove a 6 about 15-20 times....great car!!!!!! I meet a couple of guys...Bruce was the only name that stuck out..very cool older guy(sorry) gave me some good ideas for future modes.....very limited becuase I have put 15K miles on my car in 5 months....doesnt make sense to mod the car alot.....

I have a few great pics of the cars, including the McHaggis radio drop resultant pics. Damn that was funny as hell...for those of you that missed that part, SMcH dropped his radio, which he left on the roof of his car after getting gas, whilst driving away...and realized it on a blind curve going up a good sized hill! All of a sudden you see him yank the car around and bolt back down to get the radio...he happened to clip a rock while turning around, too...all that for one half of a 24$ wal-mart set??? :D I'll post these pics as soon as I can...parents are out of town so I have to do everything around the house. Should have time tomorrow or wednesday.

slug420
07-15-2003, 12:43 AM
why yes, it is my backyard, fancy that.... :)

but seriously, it seems to be the best middle ground, in Kent we had half of the meet driving over 2 hours from MA RI and northeastern CT, and now for foxboro we had more than half the cars driving 1-2 hours from all parts of CT.......so this way ppl from boston/worcester/RI drive just about the same distance as ppl from danbury/nyc

but yea, the fact that I drive 3 miles is always a plus too :)

I'll tell you, Auto-x is a fun sport to get into...the few times I've done it, I loved it. I'll probably be going out to Bristol, CT in the next month or two for another auto-x event. You could definately get away with stock tires (I wouldn't want to damage those beautiful rims you have)...especially if it's one of your first events...it will help you get a feel for your car through the twisties, and for just a few runs in one day it won't destroy your tires. With the eibachs, I think you will fair pretty well. If you don't mind the long trip (look up Bristol, CT on a map), you can join us out here one morning. I prefer the local clubs to the SCCA scantioned events (less notariety means more driving and less working the course).

Also with the custom Kick panels with the JL Vr componets in the front. i just have to keep the radio. I will even put in my Alpine V12 Expert 4 channel amp.
I can not get rid of the JL amps or alpine deck yet but if yo need it I will toss in my last aline deck even though it was being squirally.

When? I love Worcester! Well...kinda. I know Worcester...well, in the biblical sense, let's just say that. I'm definitely up for that. Plus, there are a metric ass ton of awesome restaurants around there-Tortilla Sam's, Sakura Tokyo, House of India, Sole Proprietor, Thai Cha Da, Vinny Testa's, and the list goes on...must get Dragon Dynasty Kung Po Chicken!!!! :D
