View Full Version : Whistling at 4200rpm

At around 4200rpm if I'm on the throttle a high pitched whilsting noise comes in. I assumed it was associated with the turbo, but my friends say they hear it coming from the back of the car. Is this a normal sound everyone else hears?

That would be your ball bearing turbo. It’s perfectly normal.

It's probably your friends taking turns whistling in the back seat.

I figured it was a turbo noise, but when my buddy was next to me in his car, he says he heard it coming from the back. And he is no stranger to turbo sounds (has an Evolution VIII). Just making sure it's normal for these cars. :)

Put it together with 9+psi of boost, and the mod. exhaust - STAND BACK!!!!!!!!! YOWZA!!!!!!

Whistling boost coming through your exhaust. My 323 turbo & 280zx turbo would sound that way when I punched the gas.

The reason your friends hear the turbo sound coming from the back of the cars is that your going so fast, the sound can barely keep up with you!!(drive)
