I've been going through the SCCA rules with my planned mods to see what class I would be placed in.

STX will allow:
Any Brakes, Intake, Seat, Exhaust/downpipe, Any Suspension

Street Prepared will allow:
STX mods plus intercooler and ECU

Street Mod will allow:
SP mods plus BOV, boost controller and upgraded turbo

Is this right? I know it depends on my driving and the competition, but in general, could the msp be competitive in classes above D-Stock and STX?

Once you start doing serious modifications it gets really tough to be competitive. I Figured that out and just decided to go sts and save a bunch on modifications. Instead I'm going for fewer mods but higher quality. BTW if you need a ride to the meet you can come with me if you want. I eread earlier that you may not go because of lack of transportation.

Thanks, I actually have a car...its just not a mazda :( Not yet anyway...Stockton Mazda says they are getting some 03.5 msp's next week! Anyway, I wasn't going to make the meet cause I had some prior obligations but they my not happen now so I might be able to come after all. I'll keep you posted.

In D stock the MSP has a serious advantage over alot of the field. Take it out of stock and you'll end up with a car that has less power against cars that have more and now handle just as well.

Buy the car, slap some r compounds on it, get an alignment and have a super fun time.

I agree with sticking with D-stock. Get some R-compunds - Kuhmo's will fit nicely. Then do anything that the stock classes allow that may help. On a local level the car COULD be competitive in any class. Just depends on the other people in your classes. You need to think beyond that. I would love to take our MSP to STX because of a few things that would allow us to do BUT we would not be as competitve.
