Do you think I could get away with that one on my black mice? Afterall, the Mazdaspeed colors are orange and black, and I've obviously got the same interior with hints of orange...just wondering....wish I could see it in person to see how bright the orange shows - like in certain light and whatnot...

Or maybe the WW Evo...hmm, decisions... :D

Thats freakin nice...how much does the hood weigh?

phantom
06-03-2003, 01:45 AM
I think it is around 9.5 pounds!!!

I will try to take pics from far away, but it keeps raining these day. so.... let's wait.:(

I think with the quality the CF hood has, it is really big bang for the buck...

oh, btw, it is suppose to be UV treated too and clear coated. so the color is not suppose to fade away over time. you just basically wax it like you normal did for your hood.

Phantom, How was the install of the hood? Is it something that is easy to install yourself or did you need to get someone to install it for you? Also did you drill the nozzle holes yourself?

For those who have specific questions on the hood you can feel free to ask us.

chinkysuavo - the weight of this specific hood is ~9.8lbs, the lightest regular CF/Kevlar is the yellow weave.

hawkwind101 - ideally having it installed at a shop that has dealed with composite materials would be a good idea. However the longest part of the whole process is just lining up the hood. Each hinge is independant and has a little movement. So to get it perfectly centered requires a little time. Otherwise, have a person to help you out so that you can install it quicker. The stock hood requires 2 people to lift for sure due to its weight/size.

Clearcoat is used in every step along the way of making the hoods. A high index UV protectant is also applied. The hoods will eventually fade if placed in Arizona like summer conditions 24/7 for a couple years. Alot of the cheap hoods will fade in 1 year or less.

Best looking carbon fiber I have ever seen. Getting the orange to match up was the best decision you could have made.

Actually now that I think about it, it might look really awesome if you paint the two side of the cf hood and leave the middle the way it is. Kind of like the WW MP3.

thanks people!!! I think it look sweeeet too! :)

the installing was pretty easy, as Ion said, it is just the matter of lining up the hood. I haven't drill holes in it yet, but I don't really need the washer now, I would do it eventually though.

thanks Ion for helping me to get such an awesome hood!!!! BRAVO!!!

Loks great! I'm thinking of one for my black but in black - I think the orange weave would look great on the black but I can't do it on mine... need that conservative look (ugh).

Hey what kind/size tires are you running on the those 16's for winter? I have a set of P5 16's in the garage with 1kmile stock Dunlops, heard they're not the hot ticket for snow so I'm looking for winter tires. 205/60? Anyone want an almost-new set of 195/50/16's? (sorry - don't mean to jack your post... anyone interested PM or EM me don't post here)

Yeah, I kinda figure on hearing differing opinions, however I'd just like to see the Orange/Black hood on the black mica in person. As long as it doesn't look too 'loud' I'd prolly do it...I could see me saying either "Sick, yes!" or "Gross, no!" :D

ping - those are 205/55/16 Nokian Hakka NRW's on the stock P5 wheels. Will give those in the snow belt ~0.5 - 0.75" more ride height in the winter (stock MSP suspension)

Those are slightly larger in tire size, just for the extra sidewall.

TampaBlackMSP - why don't you ask someone to photoshop your black mica color onto phantom's MSP? that'll give you an idea.

Thanks ION, that's a great idea!

Now then, if anyone wants to take a shot at it, I'd be most grateful....

Ha! Too funny phantom...

Thanks for the p'shop ION, at least it gives us an idea...I'm starting to think it would look crazy cool in person!

unwound - yeah, between you, me, DrunkenPanda, and someone else he met online the other day (I haven't yet), there is all of a sudden a number of us in the Tampa area - would make for a killer photoshoot, if not groupbuy for stuff! We'll hafta meet up, keep in touch...

Thanks, iON! Can't believe you're not getting rubbing with a 205/55/16?!? Esp. considering that the 215/45/17 we have is ~ 1/2" taller than the "stock" 195/50/16... hmmm, have to give that one some thought.

Car looks great though, I like the hood.

iON Performance
06-05-2003, 08:07 PM
TampaBlackMSP - no probs, that's a 5min p'shop job, hopefully that'll give you an idea. If you have other colored accents on your car, it'd probably look nicer with that color ie: yellow CF/Kevlar or Blue CF/Kevlar.

ping - it's only ~1.2" larger in OD, just as long as the car isn't auto-x'd or anything on those tires then it's totally fine. You will ofcourse read lower on your speedo. This is only suggested in a snow belt area.

A better size would be 195/55/16 or 185/60/16 this would be more suited for ice/snow.

Good! Is it the show at Jarry park in Montréal?

By the way, do make hoods for the WRX?

iON Performance
06-06-2003, 12:59 PM
Stou - Yes that's the one I believe. Our exclusive distributor -> Jap Tunings will be displaying our products there.

We're working on doing a CF hood for the WRX as well with an integrated STi hood scoop.

We're also working on a CF trunk for the WRX.

hey ion, make us a truck a know a few people that would be down

iON Performance
11-20-2003, 01:28 PM
Minus - you mean trunk or "boot" (as the Brits say) right? There's very few advantages to making a CF trunk, as the stock trunk isn't very much weight at all.

If there's enough people willing to pay in advance for the cost of the mould etc, then we may consider it.
