I just got finished installing the JIC 505 SUS exhaust on my MSP. The install was super easy ( four bolts, and two hangers). With the silencer in in sounds almost like te racing beat muffler. With the silencer out it sounds AWESOME!!! I used to have a ford focus that had a borla cat back on it, and I thought that sounded good, but this sounds 10 times better. As far as performance gains, I really haven't had the chance to drive around a lot yet. It definetly feels like the turbo spools up sooner than before. I took a bunch of pics that I'll try to post later. The only problem that I ran into was that the tip almost touches the bumper. I have to figure out how to make it hang a little lower.
All I have to say is that the JIC exhaust is definetly worth the money.
Thanks to Rishie!!!

Congrats. That problem occurs because of the additional lip on the MSP and MP3. I would either cut the hangers a bit to make it drop down more or look for longer hangers from another application.

hope you enjoy it. you probably won't notice any real significant gain over stock since its only a catback. like i've said before. to have it be noticable HP wise you need to get rid of whats in front of the cat-back.

how's the quality on the exhaust? i heard Jic stuff isn't that great. their suspension for the 3rd gen RX-7 actually came through the hood on some guys car he installed their stuff in. i don't recall if they were just springs or coilover or what. but sure enough. i think they were coil overs because the adjusting pins were what came through the hood. i'm going to have to go back and do some checking up on this.

enjoy it though. i'm sure it looks and sounds nice

my jic exhaust is great quality, nice welds. hollow hangers for weight savings, extremely light weight acutally. the canister isn't huge, and it looks great. as for the rx-7 coilovers coming though the hood. were they installed correctly? if they weren't that could of been a factor in that. all of the jic stuff ive seen has been great.

here is the link to the sound clip of JICs, I was looking for it earlier today.

I personally think it sounds really nice, hopefully it doesn't sound too loud when you're actually standing next to it. Btw, someone told me having an exahust on an auto will sound annoying..?

Yeah I know that it isn't going to give any real performance gains until the cats are gone, and thats what I'm doing next. I'm having a well respected shop make me a downpipe, FMIC w/ piping, and tune my car.
It doesn't sound anything like a fart box. If you heard the sound clip that someone had on here, it sounds just like that but slightly more quiet.
I've seen many exhausts before, and I must say this has the best quality I've seen. The welds and flanges are awesome. I can't post the pics tonight but I'll try to tommorow.
Thanks for the comments!

Im glad to hear its not to loud with the silencer. get some pics up.

myabe the karboy hangers would help a bit if they hang a lil lower. Is it possible to bend down the hanging brackets? ive never really looked.

I think I fixed the problem with it hanging too low. I went to the store and bought a longer exhaust hanger. It sits right where it should now. Hopefully it stays that way. I really don't want a melted bumper or paint.

Sweet. Please do tell what hanger you purchased and how much it cost??? Which store did you go to???

The JIC is by far the best exhaust system out there for the Protege and in general one of the top systems period. It's such a beatiful exhaust along with an amazing tone. Don't you agree??

With the silencer out it may be louder but a very appealing loud. Nothing compared to loud like a 350 camaro or something. lol. A very appealing hummmmmmmm.

JIC much appreciates your review of the system for the MSP. There are other prefabbed downpipes on the market at this time. Just an FYI. I'm sure you know this already.

Thanks, Rishie

PM me for your club pricing.

I bought the longer hanger at pep boys. It was like 3.99. I actually bought 2 other ones to see which ones worked the best. The only problem with the one I got was that the holes were a little big. If you can find a longer one with small holes you'll be better off.
Again, the sound is amazing. I haven't turned my radio on since I installed it. I haven't put the silencer back in, the sound is not loud enough to require the it.

how much did it run you?

yea that sounds really nice, a lot like the APEX'i N1 I have on my Eclipse I was debating what kind of exhaust to get when I pick up my MSP but this one sounds really nice.

Well it seems that the lower exhaust hanger creates a problem elsewhere. When the exhaust hangs lower it rubs on the suspension, and it was causing a weird buzzing sound around 3400k. It is a real tight fit over the suspension so any major change results in contact. I got the exhaust to the point where it isn't touching the lip, or the suspension, but I'm worried that it is too close to the bumper and might cause melting. I guess I will have to trim the lip an inch or so, and maybe put some of that thin aluminum sheet to keep the heat off the plastic.

I got the pics but I can't get them to upload to my new computer, the software isn't installing properly. As soon as I figure it out I'll post them, sorry.

I'll see if I can figure out how to get a sound clip using my camera tonight. I'll get the pics up as well.

would that apex downpipe bolt up?

MP3skaterNC
06-23-2003, 03:08 PM
yea, it would bolt up. if the downpipe goes to where theres a flange on the stock exhaust system.

That's cool, It'd be cheaper to go JIC exhaust and that downpipe then the other full 3" turbo back but who knows...
